cap suggestions for 0404

You dont want long lead lengths. I mentioned my 50V 47uf N was already too large. Forget about 25V AND 1000uf haha. But another problem is you won't be able to fit it in the hole.

I was actually thinking of cutting off the leads and wiring it into the holes with wires heh. anyway, as I said, there really aren't many choices for blackgate Ns >12v maybe I should stick os-cons there huh. shucks, I was hoping for an all-blackgated 0404

An all blackgated 0404 is kind of expensive no?

Let's see your 16V N choices are

33uf 6 x 11mm
100uf 13 x 20mm
470uf 16 x 24mm

I have 16V 100uF N in my 1010 card. It's rather large. It won't fit in the holes of 0404.

If you clip the leads or use a smaller piece of wire to go into the hole, isn't that another solder connection? I rather have 1 than 2 and shorter leads. Sanyo OSCON it is!

33uf 6 x 11mm
100uf 13 x 20mm
470uf 16 x 24mm <--this is the same size as the 25v 1000uF NX

and they aren't NX-es. I wanted a pure NX, NX-hiQ recapping lol. (the other caps as I said, are gonna be the 6.3v NX-HiQs which are reasonably small)

I'll post back with some pics once my stuff arrives from Canada!

edit: I think I remember why I went with the seemingly ridiculously high value of 1000uF. the 100uF 16v cap is barely over a $1 cheaper

I dont like caps which are too large nor too high a voltage rating over their actual used voltage.

An NX obession?

well my blackgates finally arrived, after 2 long weeks, from Canada.
plopped them all in (Ian, the 1000uF 25v NX fits!)

When I first took a listen, I thought I hadn't put my headphones on properly or something, there was something distinctly different about the sound! hadn't noticed this drastic a change when I had my oscon-ed card. I'm still struggling to put the differences in sound to words, but for now, what I can easily say is the detail level has gone UP, soundstage has widened, and the bass.. I finally understand what textured bass is!

Sweet. I need to see pics because these large caps never fit for me. Unless your card has bigger holes or something. Then again I had the first 0404, 1820m, and 1212m when they came out. Maybe the new revisions are somewhat different?

Well you shouldn't really compare unless you had both OSCON and blackgate versions and both fully burned in.

Of course if you're coming from stock it would be an improvement.

I find blackgate expensive. The money I save can be used for other things to enhance quality

I can vouch for this. This is what i heard going from stock to Lan's blackgates, and I didn't hear any drop in quality when my card was ready to drop in with its Sanyos.

They don't really state which OSCON or blackgate series they used though. From the pictures, the OSCONs aren't purple??? and the blackgate looks like the standard one not n / nx / hiq.

I think it'll take me a while to qualify the change the black gates have made. Could you it be that you didn't desoler the holes completely? the 1000uF NXes are a REALLY tight fit. If the holes won't completely clean of solder, the leads wouldn't have fit. mine's the original em8850 btw. not the 8852..
edit: but you're right, I WAS coming from stock

Aren't those larger blackgate leads like .8mm in diameter? And the ones you're replacing is like .45? I thought .6 was tight fit. .8 was just too much. Maybe you're really cramming it in. *shrug*. I never got such large sizes to fit.
