Trick to make Bose Tri Ports go behind the neck.... - Page 2

Guys, I think we need to relax on jumping all over people everytime someone says bose. It's not very welcoming, this is supposed to be a community after all. If you don't know how to help, don't respond to the post with harassment. Lots of people start with bose after all, If you don't know alot about headphones they would seem to be a great bet. Once we help out a newbie, then we can convince them they really need senn 650's and an amp Ok lecture over.

Big JD, I have never heard of such a mod. Do you perhaps have a picture of it? I would be really nervous snapping away at the headband.

Anyways, welcome to head-fi, sorry about the wallet!

Personally. I think that all this Bose bashing is rather juvenile. I know that we boys tend to love our toys but do we really need to get tribal about our respective brand preferences? FWIW, I have a pair of Sennheiser HD580s, my preferred headphones, a pair of Triports, my second favourites and a set of Grado SR80s that I find very uncomfortable.

Having read some of the purple prose perpetrated on these threads by some of the self proclaimed audiophiles I tend to take the more opinionated posts here with a smirk and a grain of salt.

As for modding the Triports I can't make any suggestion

No, they are NEW Bose TriPorts and they have the whole regular head piece on them, but SOMEHOW it can be broke away to make the ear parts SWIVEL.. or the head part, whichever perspective ya wanna put on it... They are not supposed to be behind the head headphones...

Go to www.bose.com if you wanna see the TriPorts...

No BigJD, it's not a joke. No if you know how they sound like.

One problem that you will run in to is that the headband has 2 distinct functions: 1) holding the cups against the head to form a seal, and 2) holding the phones up against the force of gravity. Pivoting the band down behind the neck retains function 1, but defeats function 2. The only thing left to work against gravity will be the pads hanging against the top of your ears. There is a comfort issue, as well as the sound distortion that occurs when the ear is bent and deformed (plus some corner reflection issues).

As an experiment, try putting the headphones on with the band under your chin. That will approximate the kind of feel and sound that you will get with modified headphones.

Unfortunately I do not know how they designed their attachment. Given how market savy Bose is, I am surprised that they did not include a pivot to allow just what you are asking about. I would guess that they are a bit to heavy to get away with cups hanging on the ears, but just a guess.
