Trick to make Bose Tri Ports go behind the neck....

I have heard there is a trick to break your triports so they become behind the neck headphones instead of on top of the head. Anyone ever try this? I want to do mine. I know it will void my warranty, but I would rather have them like that. I have been reluctant to just go ahead & snap them, in case there is something SPECIAL I need to do... Thanx.

Hahahhaha

I take it ya don't care for them. But I got them for xmas, to use with my iPod... I like them. They sound pretty good and feel comfortable enough on the ears. I don't use them for anything pro, but I would still like them behind the neck... ... somebody has to have them....

I was considering the Tri-Ports at first. When the price dropped (sale?) to $129, I was THIS close. Then I found Head-Fi, began to read all about good cans, and have since spent > $400 on the following:
Audio Technica ATH-A900's : my ultimate @ home cans
Future Sonics EM3's - canals (ugly to some, but awesome sounding)
Bang & Olufsen A8's - buds

Hey, you got them for xmas - enjoy!! Based on the several times I saw the Tri-ports, other then a radical mod, I don't see how you could make them behind the neck.

a Hi-Fi audio forum isn't really the place to ask a bose question...

my friend has a pair of triports and it doesn't seem too conceivable... plus i think they would look pretty wierd. who told you about this mod/where did you read about it?

Sure it is. I see talk about $20 Sony earbuds all the time. All headphones are fair game, regardless of what brand name is on them.

It's just that anybody who brings such names to the table should be prepared fora Head-Fi bashing

First off, I came upon the forum searching for info on Bose & found a thread reviewing them, so, there ARE others mentioning them on here. I guess this forum is more high end, pro audio use stuff, maybe... didn't research ya too much, just seen a HEADPHONE thread....

As for this "trick" if you want to call it that, I saw a pair that someone had done this to at the Bose store. But the guy said if I did it it would void my warranty & I didn't want to press the issue in the store. I did try them like that however, and they seemed to fit fine like that. As far as looking weird, i don't really care what it looks like... and besides, it looks pretty much like any other behind the head earphones, except a little larger. These cans are not that large though really...

Anyway, I think I will venture back to that store to take a closer look sometime...

Was just looking to see if anyone ever tried it, that's all, not to get into a debate of what it looks like or why I would want to....

Anyhow, thanx for the reply... I guess by the sounds of things here, I won't find my answer here... I will look for a forum that may be more geared to this particular equipment. Just thought I would try.

it's more about quality and bang for buck. there are many well-regarded headphones here that cost far far less than bose products. bose is simply considered far too expensive for what you get, that's all.

Was it done at the swivel joint? If it was, they probably took the bottom screw out and cut half the plastic ring out. Or they could have cut the plastic pin that hits the plastic ring. Take it apart, and it's pretty straightforward how to Mod it. Certainly don't just break it. Cut or dremmel it.

do they look like this?

Cool everyone has their own opinion... that's a lot of what the forums are all about. But regardless weather everyone likes Bose or not for whatever reason... I got them as a gift & they have been fine so far...

Thanx for the info Redrum.. I will take a better look to see about taking it apart. The ones I saw at the store... since the ear part now turned, it looked like there were several, pins if u will, that held it to the next part that attaches it to the head part. Not sure if I am explaining too clear, but the two most inner parts that will connect ear part to head part... looks like they just TWISTED it & them thing kinda SNAPPED apart, hehe... That's why I have been reluctant to attemp. Looks like they actually BROKE something to do it... I will look though or go back. If I do it.. I will post it for others for sure.. Thanx.

Is that a joke? Hahahaha

No, they are NEW Bose TriPorts and they have the whole regular head piece on them, but SOMEHOW it can be broke away to make the ear parts SWIVEL.. or the head part, whichever perspective ya wanna put on it... They are not supposed to be behind the head headphones...

Go to www.bose.com if you wanna see the TriPorts...

yeah, you've gotta lose some sound, and I can't imagine they're comfortable.

bigjd- i'm not sure if you understood me, and i don't know if i'm understanding what youre saying...

i know what triports look like, i was wondering if the triport mod could have just been the same as that done on the grados. I didn't see any behind-the-head triports on the bose site
