Which rechargeables are confirmed to fit inside SR71?

Okay, I know there's been a few threads on batteries with the SR-71, but size is often a concern and I was wondering which batteries have been confirmed to fit inside the amp (and with back plate completely closed)?

Thanks.

i recently had some plainviews from norm, and they fit perfectly with the sr-71, like the back plate was totally flushed against the casing and there was no space at all, i know that there were two versions, i believe i had the newer one.

i believe all fits, u jsut need to push them in real hard so that the spring battery contacts would bend in. after some time you should be able to close them easily.

Maha powerex fits completely inside.

My Ipower batteries fit in nice and easy too.

I just got Plainviews this past weekend from Norm as well for my SR-71. They are a bit longer than the Duracells that I was using previously (1mm or so). The back plate screwed in with some reluctance at the extra length, but I believe over time the battery clips will adjust to this.

Obviously, the safest bet is Norm's current batch of Plainviews, although I think he's running low. Interestingly, when I ordered them from him, he was not aware of the length difference between "old" and "new" Plainviews, as observed by Jahn.

One major possibility, that I eventually decided not to go for, is the iPower 250/260mAh 8.4V batteries. From Phil LaRocco's observations and pictures, they're actually shorter than an alkaline, but a little thicker. To my eye, the SR-71 has room for a somewhat thicker battery, so they ought to fit. Ray has claimed that battery voltage doesn't make a difference for the SR-71, so the iPower might be a good, longer-lived alternative to the Plainview.

On the other hand, I wimped out and went with some of Norm's Plainviews and a Maha charger...

Also, note that some people have mentioned having length problems with the Maha 9.6V, so beware. It may be a similar situation to the Plainviews, where different batches have enough of a length variation to exceed the SR-71's tolerances.

D'oh! Congratulations -- I didn't quite have the guts to try them. What's the capacity of the ones you're using? And what sort of battery life are you getting out of them?

I got the 250mAh and they fit quite nicely.

Their lenght is just ok for the SR-71. I also got the Ipower recharger but first charge took me around 8 hours per set! Any ideas if this is because of the bigger capacity or is this because its the first time i charged them? Does it get faster with the following charges? I am still running on my first pair so i havent calculated battery life but i will keep you posted as soon as i time the second pair.

I just use the ghetto 8.4v 150mA rat shack NiMH and they have fit fine and give me a good 7-8 hours of moderate play. Not as good as the plainviews I've had but they stopped holding a decent charge and these were $3.95 a piece so why not.
