So, does anyone here listen to my personal favorite band, the long-since departed Mecano from Spain?

I had all their cds (lp's some of them). My friends and i went to concerts.
we were teenagers. Now i find their music too simple but I had beautiful memories when I hear them.

That's awesome! I feel in love with their music many years ago, finding Descanso Dominical almost by accident. I didn't speak a lick of Spanish but felt as though I understood every nuance of the song. I ended up learning the language (ok, solamente un poco) just to understand the music better.

I have all the CDs (including some of the Italian releases) as well as cassette tapes. (I think the cassette version of Entre el Cielo y el Sueno has some extra songs not on the CD, for example.) I would have loved to see them in concert... I always imagined a song like Japon to be a great concert song.

Now they are announcing in Madrid a musical comedy directed by Nacho Cano (one of the members of Mecano) with the songs of the group. The musical comedy will be called ' Hoy no me puedo levantar'.
Ana Torroja, the singer, follows her career in solitaire although without too much fortune, in my opinion.
And Jose Maria Cano made an opera that Placido Domingo sang partly and I do not know what he does now.
Too many years since their best moments (i'm getting old )

She has been doing well this side of the ocean. She's been on tour with Miguel Bosé and has a nice duet with Aleks Sintek and another singers. I am not a fan, but I hear her songs on the radio quite often.

Here in Spain, The mecano followers (at least those who were adolescent in the times of mecano) felt a little ' lejos' of Ana Torroja in solitaire. I do not doubt its success (Leaves in the MTV Europe its last video) but 'it is not Mecano'. That's why I said in my opinion.
Saludos afectuosos. (¡Qué gracioso! hablamos en inglés entre nosotros )

Igualmente, viva la madre patria. We only speak English so Jude wont get too nervous and think that we are conspiring to take over the place. . Hey, how's Enrique Bumbury doing in Spain? He's pretty popular here and comes to play often.

Again you address a singer I like.
Heroes del Silencio was a group that I liked much.
Again, I don´t follow him since his is in solitaire.
Although with the return of the 80's in Spain it seems that he is doing fine (Like Ana Torroja, Bosé, Hombres G, Alaska -My favourite-, etc).

Well, I am more into rock than pop, but I like Alaska. Did you know she's Mexican? Also, Mago de Oz is pretty popular and Angeles del Infierno are playing here next week. Another popular Spanish band here is La Quinta Estación. Just gave their CD "Flores de Papel" to my wife for Valentine's. It's pretty nice, poppy, but very intense.

Since ten years ago I'm biased to 'classical' (since 1500 to 2005) and jazz. Before that I passed Pop, Rock, Techno, New Age.
But I have a nephew that it's a big fan of Mago de Oz.
And he keeps me in touch with all new music (I like Frank T -hiphop-).

By the way, yes I knew she is mexican. And very, very popular. I think she is a very coherent person with a coherent career.
