Where do you buy music?

Inspired by the discussion about DualDisc in Dedicated Source Components I would like to know: Where Do you get it, your music? Mainly, that is.

I wonder because KenW said he sees high-res disappearing from brick & mortar stores, and I noticed the number of discs I bought from b&m in the last twelve months hovers somewhere around five.

All of the above except download, I don't do that.

I buy from all of the above. The only downloads are live music downloads from legitimate sites like internet archive (free) or Disclogic.com (pay).

On-line record stores will be the ruin of me. In the old days I was lucky to find anything locally to add to my collection. The internet makes everything immediately accessible.

And this forum does nothing to help.

I never have, probably never will, pay to download music. I've done all the other options, but only voted for "new, brick & morter" because that's how I get probably 95% of my music.

I do a combination...

I download P2P on Morpheus and demo stuff first. If its really good (Dreamtheater, Liquid tension experiment, Larry Carlton, Zappa, Jonathan butler, kings-x) Im willing to pay retail for a CD either online or in store. P2P is a great way to sample artists and form an oppinion without shelling out for the CD.

I download through a cisco corporate firewall as well as zonealarm.

For live concert DVDs I rent them through netflix and rip the audio (.mp3) onto my 30G external hard drive. The really good ones (Dreamtheater) I buy locally.

I only buy new at both brick and mortar and online.

I am against downloading, and don't mind used, but would personally prefer to own stuff new.

I shop at this neat place called Amoeba on Sunset Strip. It has got to be one of the largest music store in the world. Can't say enough about the place

I went to Amoeba one time when I was in Oakland (I live in MA)... I can honestly say that it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. My only regret is that I didn't have more money.

Independent record stores.

I don't download either, but do all the others.

Oddly enough, I'm more likely to buy used online than in stores. It's probably because I'm not in the States for enough time on any one trip to track down the good used CD stores. Normally, I'll make a haul at Best Buy (or the like) and then otherwise buy mostly from Amazon.com or eBay. Of late, I haven't had the patience for eBay.

I didn't have much money either when I first discovered the place. Was awestruck. Anyone who loves music should visit that place at least once. Especially vinylphiles.

Mostly brick and mortar. Used when possible. New when cheap. Occasionally online but that's almost always new.

I've done all of the above. I doubt that I will be buying any more downloads. I didn't care for the hassles that came with bought downloads.
I don't buy used online very often. Maybe once every couple of years.
I buy used at b&m very often.

well, there's a pseudo head shop/record shop here in town. run by a couple of twenty somethings who stock mostly import headbanger stuff. but they'll get me any kind of jazz CD that's distributed; usually 2 days. same price, or lower than, amazon. seems kind of 60s proper. more folks should do it, if there's a shop around.
