i think it important everyone have a read of this before heated debate begins in this thread. As for my opinion. Cables can make a difference. But not as much as people make out. [/B]
Sure cables make a difference. Everything makes a difference. Most of the differences are very small. But because they do exist we are like dogs chasing our tails looking for sonic nirvana or trying to make something good sound great or vice versa. It is a more question of whether or not the differences are sonically preferable. Different does not always mean better.

Oops, I was in error on one point (happens all the time). I claimed that the switch added to the circuit. It doesn't. If I am using a pre-amp with a tape loop in it, that switch is in the circuit whether it is on or off. That leaves connectors, cable, some internal wiring, and the extra solder joints as the difference.

When I think about it that way, pre-amps are rather scarey from the perspective that the signal goes through many of those switches all of the time. Food for thought.

Very true. Thats how Nad developed their popularity. Just taking away those switches all together. At the same time many companies are now introducing two paths in their amps. One that will go through the sound modellers. And one that doesnt.
