Patti Smith - "Gung Ho"
When she sings China Bird, Strange Messengers and Gung Ho I have chills running through me. The musicians behind her deliver a compelling musical setting for her moving vocals. The vast soundstage and excellent sonic effects used in the songs both please the ear tremendously and complement the delivery of the songs beautifully.

Ojos de Brujo - Remezclas de la casa

Vanguardist, fussion music from Barcelona. A mix of flamenco, rumba, hip hop, dub... I'm not into this kind of music, but this one blow me away.

Long Player - Faces

I'm not saying this is uniformly good -- recording quality's a bit shambolic at times as well. I got it on sale at Tower -- thought it would be an un-safe and therefore not typically boring exploration of pop history.

Rod Stewart's cover of "Baby I'm Amazed" is one of those pop classics you're just astounded that hasn't been used in a billion car/beer commercials and shown up on ten movie soundtracks. There are some other real winners, including country-folk "Richmond" and a cover of Blake's "Jerusalem". This is a safe inclusion in anyone's pop collection.
