For people who haven't actually read mars volta lyrics, here's a link: http://www.plyrics.com/m/marsvolta.html
i haven't really listened to frances the mute but love both deloused and (ATDI's) relationship of command and the latter definitely has some deep meaningful lyrics. So Cedric is certainly capable of writing some incredible stuff, as has been stated earlier maybe the stuff here is too obscure to try and figure out..

i find it interesting to see what other people's opinions are on www.songmeanings.net - the ATDI posts there are often fairly insightful and the better ones definitely correspond with my own thoughts or actually allow me to understand their songs better

I just listened to Frances the Mute for the first time today-I was blown away! It's the best thing I've heard in a long time. I'm going to buy Deloused tomorrow.

I just found out from CD Universe that a 'String Quartet Tribute to Mars Volta' is going to be released on May 10!?

I've heard the Radiohead string quartet tribute; it was just awful. And that was Radiohead, so they actually had good material to work with, which won't be true of the Mars Volta in my opinion.

Yeah, i find those Section albums a bit dry as well. It's too bad they're making such a good living off of other peoples' work.

come now, how can THIS not make sense?

My nails peel back
When the taxidermist ruined
Goose stepped the freckling impatience
All the brittle tombs
Five hundred little q’s
I’m splitting hairs to
Match the faces

Well, IMHO, it's like complaining that Picasso's work doesn't make literal sense, or that Salvador Dali's work is invalid because it's *weird* (not that I'm putting Mars Volta in that league). Yes--so what, they are absurd and ludicrous, but isn't that essentially... the whole darn point????

Nah, I have nothing against it, but it seemed so darn funny written down. Pages of it. It has a great effect during a song though.

Just got Deloused on vinyl

My first exposure to the band. Will take some getting used to.

The vinyl version of this is amazing - The discs themselves look like giant steel CDs.

i kinda like the new prog style, but i agree. de-loused was better.

have you guys heard their former band, at the drive-in? a little more punk-ish, but its still good stuff. the other half of the band went to form sparta, which has a more mainstream sound than mars volta. all very good music, though.

I hate to be one of those fans, but....

man, I miss at the drive in.

Found Frances The Mute way to prog for me. Heard Deloused at the gym last week and it wasn't that bad, but it lacked energy.

On the other hand I love At The Drive-In, one of my favourite bands of all time. Was very dissapointed when I first heard Mars Volta when knowing where they came from. Have to check out Sparta to see if they kept some of the ATDI sound.

Frances the Mute got excellent reviews in Norwegian newspapers, top score everywhere and landed the first place on the hitlists within the first week. From my point of view this means: "So it's that bad" And calling ATDI a little experiment made my day

(Check out Brazil if you like ATDI)
