Exercise / Clip On Phones

Hey all, my girlfriend wants some high-quality phones well-suited for exercise. I'm dead set on Etys or Shures, as I have no complaints with either for exercise purposes, but she dislikes the canalphone design/idea-of-cramming-things-in-ears.

Suggestions?

I've heard the Koss Porta and Sportapro's are pretty good.

i dont know if those would be the best choice for exercise phones, neither are suited for lots of movement. because of the way the isolate microphonics are a big deal so if you are going to be running or moving alot it will be obnoxtious.

i know audiotechnica makes some stylish clip-ons of decent quality, not sure what the prices are or how good they are but audiocubes carries them.

i think you will be looking for clip-ons or behind the neck earphones, i know Koss makes cheap, respectable modles of both styles.

good luck with whatever you choose

we'd be on crack if we didn't mention the Koss KSC-35 here.
I've had them since 1999 and they've always been the best. While they can start getting the deadly rattle if they are squeezed too tight, koss's lifetime warranty is fantastic.
It's my favorite headphone of all time. Bass heavy, wide soundstage, never falls off.

What style is the KSC-35? Clip on?

EDIT: I Googled them. Those do look decent. 60 Ohms? Seems like they might be a bit hard to drive with an iPod (which is what she'll use).

KSC 35s are excellent. But if you want to get that, you should get the KSC 75s instead. they sound identical (KSC 75 is just the newer version) but they come with bendable clips so you can bend/morph them to the tighteness on your ear that you want. and although they are 60 Ohms they are pretty easily driven and that isnt a problem (they ARE portable headphones afterall, meant for portable devices). also they are $10 cheaper, which was a big plus for me.

Definitely the ksc75s. I run with them all the time. Good sound, stay on and comfy, and no microphonics. The only problem is that since theyre whole pads, they can get sweatier than if you just had earbuds or canalphones. I wouldn't say it's a real issue though.

Oh yeah, they have been easily driven by a zen micro, iriver flash, and rio karma.

Quick question... I have the ksc75s, but ever since I got them the join on the right one has been really loose... Actualy it popped off wen I was trying to put it on. The left one fits really well but the right one fits very loosly no matter how I position it. Has the joint on both of yours stayed pretty tight?

The other thing... I wonder if Koss would waive the fee warrenty in this situation.. If not I might as well just buy new ones

I guess I could always just glue both of them in place.

The joints on both of mine are tight. They do swivel b/w two positions, but I assume that's intended. One of them might be a bit looser than the other, but I'm not sure. Is it too late to return them to where you bought them?

I'm sure gluing them would work, as long as you made sure the pads are at the right angle against your ear. I don't really know why they made them able to come off in the first place.

Yeah, unfortunatly the package got thrown out by accident.

Yes, for $6 + shipping to them they'll repair your headphones. It's a one-time-use thing though, so if they break again you'll have to buy a new pair.

KSC75... I did my volleyball workout Friday. Squats, leg press, calf extension, quad extension, 20 min of stairmaster and 10 min of rope jumping. I use my KSC75 and they work very well.

The only catch is they have to be bent to fit snug onto my ears or they'll fall off lying down on the bench press. The metal ear hook can be bent and custom fit.

Theyre not terribly expensive too.

I cant imagine rope jumping with my e2c... thump...thump...thump

My E2's with the foam tips were my favorite gym phone (before they broke and I upgraded to the E3's.) They isolate well and had no microphonics.
