mhcarlos, what kind of pad are you cutting? The 414 replacement pad is best for the mod, it'll get you optimal results.

To gsferrari, thanks. I'll consider it- if I get the mod done by anyone, I hope they can do it clean and durable though. If my connection simply dies before then, I'll just send them in and use the Grado type plug. Of course, that isn't my primary concern; my amp killed over and now I have to get it fixed. So total bliss isn't yet in my reach. Argh.

Man after everyone talking up the SR60s I can't wait for mine to come in.

I have bought Grado SR60 a couple of weeks ago. I agree. I never use any headphone but Grado SR60 now. The sound is really touching. I have a very accurate equalisation nowadays, made after my hearing graph, so my sound is not "untouched". But we all have different hearing graphs, even the younger members.

And comfortable!! I have so often heard that they shouldn't be comfortable, so I got really surprised.

I also have them when I am walking. My head is rather big because I have a very, very big brain. That makes the "antennas" not sticking out, and I can have a cap without troubles. Perhaps a little strange appearance, but with me it is the same without headphones.
Yes gsferri. Hadn't you sang the song of praise about Grado SR60, I had. In Sweden they cost rather much, about $140. They are worth every cent, and I would have paid more when I know what I know now.
They have been praised here before, but still not after merits, in my opinion. If they had cost $300 people had placed them in same class as Sennheiser HD650, I think. They deserve it!

yesss... He is falling under the control of the SR60 machine! Soon everyone will and then the world's capital will be based in Brooklyn NY and a little facility made out of hand cured mahogany, milled aluminum, and non-resonant ABS called the Grado House or the House of Grado (depending on your preference) will rule all! Mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha... cough... ha... funny, in a very, very stupid way.

OH yeah! just got my pair in the mail today. Thanks Todd for the quick delivery. Ripped them out of the box threw them on and was touched by the SR-60 god.

Thanks guys this is the must have can thats is well priced and rocks out almost anything you can throw at it.

Hey Langrath, did you check out Alessandro? You might have been able to get the MS1 for cheaper, although I could be wrong.

So my pair arrived today (well, I suppose yesterday at this point). Thanks once again to Todd for the quick service.

I can see why they get so many recommendations on their sound for rock. It's a shame the headband is so uncomfortable. As it is I can't wear them for more than maybe an hour at a time if I'm lucky. Between that and the the cups pressing against my ears (which is never so great when you wear glasses), comfort could be much better. Still, it's not too bad.

They do sound very good. Good synergy with my Classic and 0404, as well. I'll look into options for padding the headband, I seem to recall something about getting a replacement DT770 or HD580 pad and using that.

Good stuff overall, and I can certainly see why they garner so much praise.

Or get the Sennheiser 414 replacement pads, part #HD19545, they are awesome when cutting a quarter size hole in the center. I put them on in reverse so there is more pad between my ears and my phones and they sound great. But of course, if there's another great pad suggestion on the horizon, I won't hesitate to try it.

MS1 had been about $40 cheaper. Too late anyway.
I hope that I hadn't liked MS1 as much as Grado SR60.

Would you tend to prefer it to your HD595 sometimes?

The SR-60s were the first Grados I ever heard and I loved them instantly. Before that the best I sound I had heard in many years were the PX100s. But I couldn't get the SR-60 to be comfortable (long story, but short, there was something pulling on the right cord.)
I returned the SR-60s and bought the KEFQ1 speakers later. The KEFs have a simular sound which I love too. After I was spoiled by the KEFs I got the MS-1s.
I never had that WOW facter with the MS-1s. I think because I was spoiled from the speakers. But I do remember that the SR-60s have a more fun and upfront midrange and lower treble. And I sometimes wonder if I would still like the SR-60s better because of that.

So long story short. The MS-1s are less fatigueing which is better for long listening sessions for me. The SR60s might be just what the docter ordered for you.

From a comfort standpoint, there's just no contest, Sennheiser has it hands down. This wasn't even remotely a surprise, though.

For sound? Tough to say right now as I only just got them and they're still going through burn-in. So far, they do seem to share some similarities in overall sound. The SR-60 has more oomph to the bass, but the HD595 has better detail and overall clarity (though the SR-60 isn't bad in either of these regards).

I definately prefer the HD595's imaging and soundstage. Claims of the SR-60 having a "forward" soundstage were not without merit. There have been a couple tracks where it felt like the music was actually coming from a bit behind my head. The HD595 in comparison is just wide open and airy, and it's much easier to pick out and follow individual instruments.

The SR-60 sure is fun, though. I just came back from walking to the store while listening to some Bloodhound Gang and just had this huge grin on my face the entire time.

They have some similar traits, like I said. The share bit of the same smooth treble, and seem to be well balanced with a bit of a warmer sound. It's almost like they take a different arrpoach to the same basic sound. I think they complement each other well.

So far, I like 'em both (is that even allowed around here?). I still see the HD595 as my fave 'phone for most situations, but the SR-60 has passed inspection so far and will certainly see more use.

Too expensive outside the US

Outside the US, the SR-60 are overpriced and one can get a much better pair of headphones for the same amount of money. The same goes for all Grados. In the UK, the price of Grados is about one and a half that of the US prices. Take a look at this list of typical prices:

Not only that, but Grado does not allow US web shops to sell their headphones outside the US (e.g. http://www.headphone.com/layout.php?...subTopicID=182) in order to enforce these high prices.

As a result, for a European audiophile, it is preferable to buy a set of headphones from one of the European manufacturers like Sennheiser, AKG or Beyerdynamic because for the same amount of money spent for a Grado set one can get a much better set from some other source. I don't understand the commercial benefits that Grado believes that it gains from these high prices because, at least in the UK, this fact is well known and Grados are avoided unless someone happens to travel to the US.

To Helter Skelter: Too bad the HD595's don't go for $70, then I'd get some. Aren't they also high iimpedance to the point that they have to have an amp?

Also, for paspro: Do you have a chart for Alessandro's cans? I'd like to see how much they go for compared to their US counterparts.
