rattling in hd650 driver

I can hear rattling in the right side of my headphones, especially when listening to bass. I thought I heard this once before and I sent my phones into Sennheiser who said they were fine and I got them back and thought so too for a while. Now suddenly I notice it again. Am I crazy or are they damaged? I can hear it in the right side even when I listen with the left ear. If it's really damaged I'm pretty annoyed at Sennheiser and at headphones in general... my speakers have lasted for years and don't rattle, and these headphones weren't cheap... I've invested a lot of money into a headphone amp as well which is useless without headphones. But if headphones cost so much and break so easily it's not worth. Angry and confused.

It could be a hair trapped inside, remove the padding and the thin pad over the driver and look for a hair...or two.

I recently did this, but I will try again.

And you are sure it’s not on the recording? I had similar experiences when upgrading phones.

I think cleaning out the hairs might have helped. I'm not 100% sure but it seems to have fixed the problem on two occasions.

I concur that hairs touching the driver(s) are usually the problem. Just be sure not to touch the driver itself while removing the hairs!

crap, it's happening to me! How do I carefully remove the padding and stuff???

EDIT: I can head just a smidgen of "flea maracras" rattling in the left, while the right is like the rattling from the "maracas of a roach".

I would suggest pinching the pads by the bottom end when pulling them out, not just directly trying to yank them out. Ripped the material that holds the foam inside them when I tried that and had to sew it back together ...

Is there any way to further hair-proof the HD650's? I'm constantly finding I have to open them up after a week to clean them out.

If you defoamed them, that probably is a contributing factor.

Or maybe you could just cut your hair shorter

I found some hairs stuck in the foam filter after 3.5 years of use, but never had a problem with the drivers rattling.

And on a side note, cleaning the pads with soap and water does soften them up and improves comfort.

They are a little over a month old...i'm actually burning them in, and i practically have a buzz cut, haha. so bascially, i bought them like this...

sounds like a baseball card stuck in the spoke of a cricket's unicycle...

EDIT: FIXED!!! The culprit was the quarter sized foam cover on the driver's outside; I just sort of tightened it by pulling it from all angles very gently with tweezers, and the flopping disappeared. All better now. Thanks Darek for the link.
