west side soul

im from pittsburgh and itd be nice to have a big f'n record store with good used stuff
i still rely on the small places, they dont have 13 of the same ace of base cds which is nice, but cds are like $14
i guess that is a small price to pay for excellent music

Just picked up a whole bunch of cd's, including the magic sam west side soul, what a great album, this is the real deal if you are into blues! Great recording as well, its not remastered or anything, sounds wonderful!

well, his music is 20-30 years old and it has been imitated by many artists but Captain Beefheart was/is the original. Try Clear Spot, Lick My Decals Off Baby, and finally, if you're still interested Trout Mask Replica. Be patient, it's not random noise, it's the tightest most exciting band in history. Enjoy

"in the aeroplane, over the sea" sounds like a guy dealing with an obsession with anne frank and other personal issues by playing indie pop while the circus is in town. it may not be everyone's taste, but i think it's amazing. one of the few albums that actually makes me cry. the guy who fronted the band and wrote all the songs (jeff magnum) pretty much just walked away from making music after this album was release.

i see it online at major places like amazon.

Dudes Recstar hasn't found a way to cure his upgraditis. There's no point recommending him stuff when he spending the money on headphone stuff!!!! I knew he would go belly up on us at the last gasp. Weak dude.

here's my tip for you: Eva Cassidy songbird/Alice in Chains unplugged.

Hey a lot can happen in a month lol

however, my cd collection has been getting bigger and better, so it makes it all worth it

So what happened was this:

You wanted to use the money going to headphones and upgrades and instead buy cds.

BUT, then you end up buying cds and getting newer and more expensive headphones and are now losing money TWICE as fast...

Sounds to me like you're not exactly winning the upgraditis battle.... hahhahah.... no one can resist the temptations!!

MWAHAHHAHAHA... (thunderclaps in background)!!!

To all who mentioned anything about Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. I respect all of the mentioned artists music, and I feel that Willie Nelson is one of the top 5 best modern songwriters, but there is so much more good stuff on the country music scene. I see kids that are wearing all this punk rock clothing and with 25 body parts peirced running around telling everyone that they love Johnny Cash or Merle or Willie. I think I have a theory why this is happening. They're figuring out that these guys were Country musics biggest drug addicts/alcholics and that's what makes them real. Well whatever. I like a lot of that old stuff, and I knew Waylon Jennings personally and loved all of his old stuff, but I think there's a lot of hype over these guys because they were "badboys".

Great Country Musicians Past/Present:
Vince Gill
Glen Campbell
Brad Paisley (great guitarist, I don't like most of his songs)
Chet Atkins
All of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (they did a lot of folk/bluegrass stuff as well)
There's a lot more too. Don't look away from country because of the mainstream crap that is played on the radio.

If you're inclined, I'd check out some Bluegrass. If you like acoustic sound, there are some of the finest acoustic musicians lingering around this genre.

New Grass Revival (all "Mark O'Connors" of their instruments)
Alison Krauss & Union Station
Bela Fleck (Does some cool Jazz/Bluegrass fusion stuff)
Del Mcoury Band
Nickel Creek
John Hartford

...wish I could listen to it right now, but I'm taking a breather from headphone listening. be careful with your listening volume level.
