Upgrade, HD650 + What cable?

Everwhere I go on this forum I see this buzz about the Zu Mobius cable for the Sennheiser 650s. There's a lot of praise, and allmost an equal amount of not so positive reports. Personally I have no experience of Silver vs Copper cables so I'm having a hard time understanding peoples comments..

Now I found a used Zu for sale for a reasonable price. The question is, should I get it? I recently swapped my 595s for the 650s and I'm really enjoying the "not so bright" sound of the 650s compared to the 595s.

What I read is that the Zu makes the sound brighter, which I might not like if its too much. I got a pretty sensivite hearing and I find long hours of bright treble very fatiguing to my ears. I also read that the bass would get stronger and more tight. Which I would like. So I'm having a hard time making up my mind here.. The rest of my system isn't really that high-end either, will there still be a diffrence with a replacment cable?

I listen mostly to trance, dance, r&b, hip-hop and general pop music. So the cable should work for allmost any kind of music..

If the price is reasonable go for it, even used they still sell very well. If you don't like it you can probably get your money back by selling it here.

Otherwise do tell where it's selling

The Cardas cable is a significant improvement over the stock cable with the 650's. I do not notice any negative effects of the cable.

i doubt that any upgraded cable will show any actual difference in a double blind test. if you don't like how the 650's sound, get another set of headphones.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I love the way they sound. But as you all know, there is allways room for improvment

Any comments about silver based cables and the kind of music I listen too, would it be a benifitial mix?

i sincerely doubt it that it will make any actual difference, unless the cables that you currently have don't have the integrity to carry the full audio signal or are badly shielded from whatever EMI sources are in your living space.

If you don't have an extremely bright source, the HD 650 won't sound bright, independent of the cable. The Zu Mobius increases resolution and detail and slightly emphasizes both ends of the frequency spectrum. The result will in most cases be a less fatiguing and more musical sound than with the stock cable. I'd go for it, don't miss the opportunity! You can always sell it with little to no loss.
