Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX Certified Computer Speaker System

Best bang for the buck for over 6 years now

Ssgtnubb

Pros: Good quality construction and the sound is very good considering the cost

Cons: No way to turn off the sub from the controller, would be nice to save the pressure on the amp. Buggy sound controls at times

Over the past 6 years I've had 4 sets of these speakers and I'll say the older model's are by far better than the newer series in overall quality but the newer models retain enough value to consider them over other brands.  My biggest grip with all my sets is the noise you can get when turning the volume up or down and I've finally found a nice and easy fix.  Take the knobs off the...

Swan M10

Pros: INCREDIBLE sound for the price (in regions where it's cheap). Fantastic highs and midrange. Tight and clean bass.

Cons: Short satellite cables that cannot be replaced. Potential QC issues. Subwoofer needs to be on desk for best bass response. Relatively expensive in U.S

“ Ill keep this short and sweet. I've had mine for four years and it has done every duty in the book that a set of speakers can do. Its been moved back and forth from dorm to dorm, apartment to apartment - all the while ensuring Im kicked out as soon as I arrive. These things rock!   The small speakers do tend to be outclassed by the bass driver. They get loud, but the dont project...” --mattphones

Swan M10

Swan M10

“Like many others, I was very skeptical about the Swans M10 2.1. How can something that retails for only around US$60 in China get such rave reviews in the Internet audio circles? So I bought one to check it out, after all it was only US$80 from where I live.   Sure, it has wooden enclosures unlike the downright nasty plastic used by at this price range, but it still looks kinda cheap to...” --Palladium

“ I just got these and am impressed with the detail and clarity of these speakers.  I only wanted something simple, small, and cheap.  I was looking at the swans but don't have the opportunity to listen to them here in hawaii.  We are pretty limited to whats available here and on Oahu is where they'd most likely have more options for me to listen to.  But back to the review.  I am currently...” --Hawaiiancerveza

Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System with Subwoofer

Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System with Subwoofer

“I have had these speakers for almost 6 years now. Downgraded from my old Logitech Z680. The sub of the Logitech Z-680 had a buzzing sound within a few months of use that forced me to set the bass volume to less than 10% (although it was sufficient enough for decent bass). Until now the X-540s have not shown any signs of aging or sound deterioration. This considering that the speakers have been...” --b3roldan

PSB Alpha PS1 Powered Speakers

“Outstanding pair of computer speakers. The mid-bass punchiness is much better than I imagined. However, the two main speakers are not capable of handling deep bass-- this is where the sub-woofer would come in handy -- it'd perfect this speaker set by compensating for its only weakness - deep punchy bass.     The speakers look very good.......well designed.   Tried Aktimate...” --Skwalker

Sony 2.1 Personal Speakers (Black)

“ This was my very first set of non-crap quality speakers. I have to tell you, i was very pleased with the sound of these, and they still amaze me at times. They are a good sounding pair of speakers for 100-130 dollars. Perfect for movies, music, and even gaming. The only thing that disappointed me was the lack of bass under 50hz, but from 50hz up the bass was again, great quality for the...” --Xaborus

Audioengine A5 Powered Multimedia Speaker System (Black)

Audioengine A5 Powered Multimedia Speaker System (Black)

“Build quality is good: Woofer dust cap and tweeter both pop back out if you push them in, so it is relatively 'child proof'.   Sound, especially treble and mids are satisfying but the bass can be boomy with bad tonal accuracy if placed on the wrong surface like a wooden desk etc which simply becomes an acoustic extension of these. So you either need lots of space for speaker stands, a...” --GREQ

Corsair Gaming Audio Series SP2500 High-Power 2.1 PC Speaker System (CA-SP211NA)

“Purchased this system off of Ebay. Overall very good sound, impressive sound output with powerful bass response, at its price point ($250} I think it is the system to beat, the satellites sound nice and bright and do not get drowned out by the subwoofer's bass output at any volume level, this system will definitely get loud and I did not notice any distortion, I mainly listen to music but it...” --Croozer

Cambridge Audio S30 Bookshelf Speakers - Black Pair

Cambridge Audio S30 Bookshelf Speakers - Black Pair

“As I said on the summary, they will be gone from North America soon because Cambridge Audio realizes the buyers aren't sophisticated enough to realize this smaller box is a totally excellent speaker.  They are replacing them with the typical coated woofers and dome tweeters that don't have the sophistication of the S30.  However, they will be more competitive against the array of...” --Audiolad
