hmm from the look of the pads it seems you had extended time with it

What are the pads made of, my dove?

@khoi14021993: When this photo was taken, the pads were actually quite new. I'm guessing the earpad cover material is somewhat loosely fitted to make the earpads more smushy. In part because of these earpads (combined with modest clamping pressure and overall awesome ergonomic design), the MDR-1R is one of the most comfortable portable, closed over-ear headphones I've worn.

@scrypt: The pad covering is made from a urethane-based synthetic leather, which they've chosen for increased durability. Though the hand is not as supple as a lambskin or the finest grades of protein leather, it is very soft, nice on the skin--and, again, the overall design of the pads makes them very comfortable.

Is this color exclusive to a Japanese version only (cuz I was looking at the Sony website and could only find the pure black version)? And also, how would you compare these to Sennheiser's Momentum considering they are right in each other's ballpark.

My issue with pleather is that, despite the initial softness, it tends to wilt against the cheek, so that each pad eventually shrivels and degrades to a postmortem anus. Headphone pads made of pleather seem to have shorter lifespans than their leather counterparts.

That's one aspect of most current urb-aud offerings which, despite the profusion of options, still annoys me (present Momentum and its company excluded).
