S-video is also called "mini-DIN", cool! I've had my dell laptop since 2007 but I only discovered this February (2012) where was hidden the darn SPDIF out!

hehe yeah, actually, S-video is a 4 pin mini-din. If you look closely at your laptop's mini-din connector, you'll see there's a lot more than the 4 s-video pins in there. One of the extra pins carries SPDIF. See http://pinouts.ru/Video/dell_vidout_pinout.shtml

Oh yeah, it looks exactly like the image on this link, 7 pins + the rectangular hole on the bottom.
But I did buy the Dell adapter in response to this discovery and when I owned a FiiO D3 (which only accepts coax and optical in) but this thing was so bad I've quickly returned it. I never had the chance to use my adapter + laptop's SPDIF after that. I'm using USB and omg it's jittery (lol just kidding).
