Fostex TH900 Unboxing

The Fostex TH900 arrived from Japan yesterday, and I took some unboxing photos of what has to be one of the most beautiful headphones currently on the market--and, to my eyes, perhaps one of the most beautiful headphones I've ever seen. The TH900's physical beauty is all about the Bordeaux-colored earcups, painted using the traditional art of urushi lacquer. These photos definitely do not fully convey how gorgeous the lacquering is.

This is what the Fostex TH900 came shipped in. The outer carton was made of a very thick corrugated cardboard, and it kept the headphone (and its main box) well protected.

The Fostex TH900 comes with this Fostex wire headphone stand. Either I'm using it wrong, or this stand is relatively unstable. I also do not like how the part that holds the headphone has no flat area, so the stand's wire frame leaves a couple of indentations in the headband.

Which amp(s) did you use to drive your TH900? Could you recommend some decent, dedicated headphone amps (under $2000) that works well with the TH900, other than Fostex's matching HPA8 DAC/amp?
