Fiio E1 ultra modded

after waiting for over 3 years now for my 3 amps on order with xin, 2 supermicros and a reference, i had the longing again for a really ultraportable apendage to my iphone 4, very happy with its default audio quality and using lossless, i felt i could make do with this, albeit with the help of a cheap and cheerful additional little boost, the e1 was my only choice, as its batteryless and i felt i could make this into a supermicro type form factor but without the need for interconnects even.... hence this little project a few months back some pics of heavily modified fiio e1, aphile grade solder was used after desoldering all pads at dock and inline remote junctions, nordost valhalla wire throughout from remnants of xlr cuttings clip removed and triangle flanges filed down out of the way ungainly stock wired flailing extension removed from fiio and very short length (~2cm?) used and then folded back on itself making use of the natural arc cutaway from old clip position to take the height profile of the dock down a bit bottom entrance for wire blanked off and redrilled out of the side for lower profile kicks, plastic around dock connector melted down to enable insertion with apple bumper on pretty rum looking aesthetically cause of all the plastic melting and hotglue antics but works like a dream and sounds good enough to become my sole portable rig: fiio e1 + ip4 fiio e1 is a dream as it is batteryless and takes its power from the more than ample ip4's juice - so so cheap i didnt feel guilty at hacking this around, if something went wrong order it up again and rinse and repeat, works great with the ipad also when not using camera connection kit usb audio out jollies. ;-)
