I have to admit, this ended up being more about the pads on my v6's vs. the ones on the 7506. Maybe also the age of my headphones vs. the 7506's because I tried again and still found the 7506's to be clearer and tighter.

in a heartbeat i would spend 600 or so dollars on the hd800's but with the current price it will really really be a stretch.
