Wow, why not relax a bit. Sorry if you felt offended (by which part of my writeup exactly??). I happened to read your comment in the middle of fiddling between dn1k and dn2k, and I think I got what you mean by not knowing where to start with the dn2k. More neutral means sometimes less to tell about specific aspects of signature.
This might indicate more neutrality  Just unpacked my dn2k couple hours ago, switching now back and forth between dn2k and dn1k: dn2k sound more intimate, produce more layers and details. dn1k are more boring and flat to my ears. Also bass is better with dn2k, not in terms of impact, but basslines are more clearly rendered. Vocals are better with dn2k, and so all sorts of synthesizers in EDM. Seems dn1k are bit less sensitive, dn2k are noticeably louder on the same volume...
Speaking of isolation, I got bad news this week from CustomArt: Piotr can not make silicone custom tips for DN-1000. Reason: tip may fall/slip off too easily, there is not enough attachement.  I am curious whether DN 2000 will be any better in this regard.
You mean custom tips? Exactly yesterday I left my dunus and ear impressions to be picked by CustomArt aka piotrusg from this forum. Will report once I get the tips. Better isolation may further improve the bass. Will see..
Did you guys notice that ljokerl updated his massive table with DN1K? The score is surprisingly low, 9.2. I own some IEMs he also scored similarly (eg. GR01 is 9.2, R-50 is 9.1) and heard others (eg. Brainwavz B2 - 9.2) and kind of do not understand. These are all dual armatures with very little, near-to-no bass (GR01, B2). B2 is heavily sibilant. I can see that he is no bass-head and may not like V-shaped (is this really the case with DN1K?) but no-bass sound of some dual...
You would not regret getting fiio -- I use e17 alpen. It is really night and day compared to phones or tablets output, dn1k benefits greatly from amping. But I would not say it is details and soundstage, rather overall sense of realism, involvement, liquidity, slam. But huge difference, really. Put your fiio volume to the maximum, use digital volume control on your device and then voila - the magic happens!    When properly amped, I feel that dn1k outperform my big...
Here is the write-up you asked for. I won't bother to discuss accessories and such, what matters is sound  If you want, I can add some photos of both earphones and boxes. Music: chamber and baroque records and EDM (dubstep, goa trance etc) DAC and amp: Fiio E17. Sonic comparisonN4 is incredibly quick and transparent. Without a hint of sibilance, every part of frequency (but predominantly mid and treble) has a heap of details. The bass is better, deeper and more...
After 3-5 days with N4 universals I must say the mids and higs are close to perfection, the best I ever heard from an IEM. There is way more layers, clarity and transparence than on Rockit R50 and Vsonic GR01, quite as expected. However, somehow unexpectedly, they also beat my full headphones (HE-400) in these and a number of ways. N4 are more transparent and neutral, somehow never harsh and sibilant as HE-400 often are. Soundstage and bass are still better on HE-400, but...
I own both GR01 and R50, and no -- they do not sound identical. R50 is better. More engaging, layered and fun. This is not a matter of insertion and tips as I ordered Custom Art tips for both of these. Hevaily recommended, btw. R50 have built issues, this is true. After a year or so, my pair has some problems with memory cable insertion to the headphone.  I prefer some tracks, especially with average mastering, on R50 over my full headphones, HE400. With custom tips...
I can easily agree with Asr's review. I still don't like my HE-400 nearly as I do my double armature CIEMs (custom-tipped R-50 and GR01). Let alone isolation, there is something wrong with HE-400's fuzzy midrange. While the IEMs are crystal clear, transparent all over the frequency, detailed and encourage quiet listening. I can not say that about the HE-400. And they approach the end of burn-in period of 150 hours..
