Does it always skip or refuse to play the same songs? Did you try to reset the ipod? A couple times after I updated my ITunes/ipod my ipod refused to play a whole bunch of songs. It would simply skip song after song on a playlist...

Can't he use ITunesEncode with EAC to convert directly to ALAC? EAC rips the song to a temp wav files hands that file to ITunesEncode which in turn uses the ITunes engine to convert the temp wav file to ALAC after which the temp wav...
