The deal is certainly a very, very good one. For anyone who is interested in just the DAC and Amp, note that the discount on the triple stack puts you at $100 cheaper plus you get the power supply. This does make me wonder though if one or more of the pieces is due to be upgraded soon....
Saw this video (from the High End show in Munich, I think) that features a view of the rear of the unit:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akYk6jpd6Vc
Some video hands on from YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vN8vD5P3KhM www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeBXK8J3l-k www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wduaOH8r94 That last one is an unboxing.
My gut tells me that if they are shooting this high on price, Senn is working hard to put out a quality product that stands up well in the face of established competition.  That being said, the proof will be in the performance and we can all anticipate some very long threads on that topic when it is eventually released.  Where Senn hopefully will shine is by designing and building a unit that really mates well with the HD 700 and 800.  Of course, it will still have to...
So a company known primarily for one product category now wants to get in on what has been a growing "companion" market.  That's nothing new.  Here though, the choice to jump in at the top end of the companion category at a price point even higher than the flagship product in the main category is curious.  That is, unless this is just the flagship of what will eventually be a line of DAC/amps at various price points...
Retail stock:   http://www.soundearphones.com/collections/frontpage/products/sennheiser-rs-220-wirleless-audiophile-headphones   Jeff
I called Senn USA today to check on the status.  I know, I'm obsessive about these.    I was told they are finally hit the Senn warehouse and will are in the process of being distributed to retailers.  Rather than waiting any longer though, I placed my order with them directly (they try to encourage you to go with a retailer - even saying that you can likely get a cheaper price that way - but they will take a direct order if you insist).  It's supposed to ship out today....
FYI - I tweeted John Falcone and got his reply on availability saying that the plan is for late January availability.  So, unless there is some additional delay that pops up, we're confirmed for month's end.   Jeff
CES Press Release from today:   "The RS 220 will be available in late January and carries a street price of $599.95."   http://app.e2ma.net/app2/campaigns/archived/25524/4807955cff021efd54aae15efbfac97d/
So much for that.  A call back to them today now shows a change in their system with stock availability expected at the end of January.     Jeff
