It's going to be built into amplifiers and computers so those are your only costs.  They may release a software plug- in for it at some point and I'm sure someone will hack the chipset and create a software version plug-in for Foobar with the same algorithms.  Not sure if they plan on releasing a stand-alone box but if they do I couldn't imagine it costing more than a few hundred.  Its first inception though will likely be surround receivers and laptop...
Dolby has a new headphone 7.1 (or was it 11.1) processing coming out that's supposed to be almost as good as the Smyth Realiser, but without the custom room matching and head tracking.  People who heard it at CES said it was truly remarkable and the best they had ever heard, and works with two channel headphones.  The HD800 or LCD3 would be fantastic with this, as they only demoed it with much cheaper phones.
Try putting a pair of HD650 on top of them if you want to hear "as 3D as it gets".
Sankar's a good guy, no doubt.
Matter of preference.  I prefer the LCD3 to the 009.   The best Stax IMO was the SR-Omega.  If only it had a little more bass and a tighter headband it would be a perfect phone, IMO.   And I definitely agree with Jude if he said the LCD3 have the best overall combination of any phone, and certainly the best bass.   Odd, because I was never a big fan of the LCD-2.   I still love my HD800 (and HD800/650 piggybacked) but the bass of the LCD3 is just so seductive and I...
They are both 261.  They were probably made and shipped at the same time.  Another thing I detected which he couldn't even detect was that the left channel was ever so slightly louder on his pair.  I have very sensitive hearing in some regards, and a system that can reveal it.  I wouldn't doubt if it was only a 0.3dB difference (or less) between the drivers though, but it was there.     I know, and I'm sorry.   We have to work on it very soon.  I'm just so busy and...
Both super phones.  Just ask yourself do you want to do more analytical listening (HD800) or leisurely listening (LCD3) ?
Thanks for your opinions.  I don't have much time at all to listen because I'm either at my day job, building cables, or taking care of a sick family member.  Therefore the odds of them getting any significant time on them anytime soon is pretty slim to none.  I'm only even typing these posts while taking a smoke break.   The oddest issue I have is the volume issue/driver sensitivity issue.  That shouldn't exist at all but it does.  Could it possibly be due to the...
I recently had a chance to compare a very close serial number pair of LCD3 to my pair.  (They were purchased about a week a part.)   Surprisingly there were quite a few differences I noticed between the two:   1)  His pair was louder at the same position on the volume pot than mine, making his more sensitive 2)  His pair was more linear across the frequency spectrum 3)  His pair had slightly more detail but leaned on the bright side, with a slightly wider...
They've also released the video for the last track on the album (Raven), but I don't care for the animation once again.  The music is fantastic though.
