Ex-Girl "Back To The Mono Kero!" (2001)   After gorging on heavy metal yesterday, I was seeking a purgative. Something lively and weird in the experimental pop/jazz realm. The aptly-named Ipecac Records happily obliged me with this older release by Japan's Ex-Girl. Think Shonen Knife meets Melt Banana on Kate Pierson's tour bus after dumpster diving with Yoko Ono (or something).   Worth finding just to hear the lead single "Waving Scientist @ Frog King". Stupid...
Faith No More - Sol Invictus (2015)     High On Fire - Luminiferous (2015)
I use my se215s for workouts (mostly indoor cycling in a trainer and light weights) and haven't had any issues in two years of use. Only noticeable corrosion is the "Shure" logo disappeared on the right outer pod. I typically sweat moderately, and usually take care to wipe phones and cords thoroughly after each workout. I avoid swabbing with alcohol, but have used slightly soapy water or witch hazel in solution if my sweat has been excessive or especially salty. I try not...
I'll throw in a vote for the Sennheiser Amperior. I bought it to use at work for isolation, but use it more for "on the go", especially traveling and when I want really fun, energetic sound. I've seen lightly used units selling in your price range (I paid $350 for mine new, which was too much IMHO), and it would be worth investigating if you've not auditioned them before.   These headphones are perfect for metal and pop. Very clear, bright (but not too bright to my ear)...
Yeah, I've tried ABX tests before, and I can't tell the difference between 320 and FLAC. I can tell a 128 from 192 in some real world situations, though. For instance, 128 on my decent home system can sound really flawed, but at work (with cheap work laptop and low-mid headphones), I can't really tell. Also, not all rips/encodings are equal. A bad rip of a bad mix at 128 can make me want to cry, but a good mix/rip/encoding can sound quite good.   And that's why I'm an...
Old thread, I realize, but I'm posting in hopes of reviving the topic.   I have an old HTC Trophy running WP 7.5 that I think sounds pretty good for a smartphone (in part due to an SRS sound enhancer).  I am looking to upgrade soon to either an HTC 8x or a Nokia Lumia 928 running WP 8 (Verizon customer).   My only hesitation about the Lumia is sound quality. I've read "good sound" on various reviews, but nothing that is especially informative. My spouse has a...
I'm listening to my HD 560 Ovation-II right now. I purchased mine in late 1994, for around $250 (if memory serves). It was my first higj-quality headphone and my first experience with an open design. I didn't know much about headphones at the time, but they looked beautiful and sounded better than any headphone I had heard up to that point. Initially, I bought them to pair with a Denon PMA-520 amp and CD player, but I later expanded their duties to computer audio and...
Wussy "Left for Dead" -- Great Midwestern alt-rock album featuring Lisa Walker and former Ass Ponys frontman Chuck Cleaver. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjDXceXFicMa
Stirring acoustic compositions from one of the titans of ... death metal? Great disc. Reminds me a bit (just a bit) of Peter Gabriel's "Last Temptation of Christ" soundtrack.
Bison B.C. - Lovelessness Nothing audiophile about these guys; just primal hard rock.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2GC3oh1h1s
