I didn't do this test either, as my thoughts are in line with Zin_Ramu's and Spad's. All those people who claim 128kbps mp3's are trash, where are they now?
Plextor and Sony. I have used several models from Plextor and one from Sony. They were all good. Audio extraction yields the same result each time even without EAC.
erikzen: I think companies tend not to manufacture their higher end models in China because, as other posters in this thread have pointed out, China's labor costs are cheap so cheap stuff tend to be made there. If you're trying to sell an amp for $2000 when other amps are going for $300, you want some aspects of your amp to be different so you can push your product. Like dokebi said, China's factories are relatively new, and many are state-of-the-art due to substantial...
I found some great computer speakers for $30 that I thought I'd share with you guys. I never liked the 3-piece satellite/woofer systems because the frequencies around 100-200 hz cannot possibly be adaquately covered by either the woofer under your desk, or the little single-driver satellites. Besides, the woofer is too busy booming out crappy bass to output any musical content. Good for those who like lots of treble and lots of bass, but not for those who like music, which...
I wouldn't wear them on my head if I were you because when "the d990s walk over, jump up and down on, and spit in the beyer dt 770 pros face" you wouldn't want to be anywhere near them.
Considering that the Grado RA-1 is a CMoy in a wood box, what does everything think the RA-1 AC will be? I'd guess RA-1 plus $15 wall wart.
I just sold a Denon on ebay. I never liked the sound of it from day one. It sounds metallic, and overall it just doesn't sound right but I can't pinpoint what. The latest fan favorite is the Sony DVP-NS500V which can be had for less than $150 new. I haven't heard it though so I don't know if it's any better.
I have done a test using "proper" comparison procedures as described in my post in a previous thread: and in my opinion, Ogg Vorbis at 128kbps (nominal) is worse than MP3. There is one track where the symbol has a rather noticeably strange decay under OV but not under LAME/MP3/128kbps. I have not yet found one such instance in the MP3 tracks. Based on my limited testing, my opinion is that OV is just hype.
Were your evaluations done under proper conditions, as mentioned above? Did you do a blind test?
As, promised, the MP3 vs CD articles. There are actually 2. Basically, they did a first one with audio enthusiasts in an "audio club" and these people can't tell a difference, for the most part. Then they redid the test with a few very select people who are audio compression specialists, they could more or less tell a difference. First article:,00.html Second araticle:,00.html
