don't forget the 280's are portable(somewhat) and have replaceable parts.   this is why auditioning headphones(and speakers for that matter) with your own music is important
Denon AH D2000's are one of the top choices in the $300 range

if you  take the ear pads off the 280, there's a cover over the transducer.   what exactly does this "cover" do and if it gets torn?
im really considering the d2000's, but need to be sure if my receiver (denon avr 791) will drive them well enough.   these will be my first (high-end?) headphones with pretty much only listening to the hd280 pro's.  
forgot to mention i listen to dubstep,classical,rock,video game music.... im kinda all over the map   just want a nice balanced sound (some bass)   the only other headphones that really caught my attention were the...
