I think that frequency response can be a bit misleading, sure, but that's not to say it's not a factor at all. Higher end headphones have a broader frequency range, because they are built better. I'm just wondering if I'm going to knock out any of the value of the headphones by having a lower frequency response in the receiver. What you said is certainly true, but it doesn't really answer my question.
I am looking at some receivers to power my headphones. Most of them show a frequency response of around 20hz-20khz. Does that mean it is pointless to have a pair of headphones with a broader frequency response than what the receiver outputs?
Hi everyone. I'm looking for my first pair of decent phones. Actually, I should say my second pair. I just bought the Senn HD 205's and they are complete crap. No midrange at all. When I turn  midrange up on the EQ, it sounds like the speakers are blown. The headphones they hand out at my local library are much better.  Luckily I only paid $30 on craiglist (still got ripped).  For my second attempt, I settled on the JVC Harx 900's, mostly because they are cheap and seem...
yeah, exactly.
I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help and advise I've received. A couple of weeks of research and the last 11 hours on this site and  I've decided on a pair of Beyerdynamics DT 990's ($192 Amazon) , powered by a Yamaha RX V371 ($149 Newegg) for running my xbox 360, pc, and bluray, all through HDMI.  I'm pretty confident about the selection (better be since I just ordered), but feel free to tell me how I've made a terrible choice. I have 30 days to return : )...
You don't say?
Wow, good spot on the newegg deal. That saves me 60 bucks. I see that you've used both the dt 990's and the hd 598s. Im currently lookng at both of these as well as considering buying a used pair of hd 650's. Do you have any preference on these or any other suggestions? My uses are in order, gaming, movies, music, television.
If it's what thing I'm learning from reading old posts, for sale threads, pricing reports, etc, on this page, it's that many high end headphones are increasing in price as time goes on. What is going on here? Across the board, headphones from Sennheisers to Beyerdynamics are more expensive today than they were 2-3 years ago. DT 990's? More expensive. HD 600's? More Expensive. These are just a couple of many examples I have found. What's the deal with this? I mean, the...
If this is the wrong place for this post, please let me know and I will move.   I live in a small studio apartment and I am trying to get the most out of my xbox, bluray, and PC by using a good pair of headphones. I'll leave the choice of headphones for another thread, but as far as what to drive them, I have been leaning towards a Yamaha receiver with Silent Cinema. The Xbox 360 outputs through optical, my blu ray through digital coax, and the PC also through...
Hi, just trying to revive this thread and get opinion on silent Cinema.    I live in a small studio apartment and I am trying to get the most out of my xbox, bluray, and PC by using a good pair of headphones.
