MOFI NAILED this release, This thing sounds AMAZING!!  One of the top MFSL's for sure, and that's saying a lot.   Marantz CD5004>Matrix M-Stage W/LT1364>Koss DJ100 Yeah that's right, $50 headphones in the chain but they sound AWESOME in this set up :)   If you were Blind you think you'd have $500 cans on your noggin' :)

I have more then one " Best Deal"  AHD-2000 New on sale back in 2010 for $160 Another would be Refurb 558 for $105 ( the going rate) Which IMO, hard to beat at $100 Clams. BUT the BEST deal ever HANDS down is the TBSE for $49.99 from Tuesday Mornings   Yeah, I know these aren't really deals as they are the going rates, But the cash you really won't find better sets at the same price range, You have to go up into the $300 range to get something better. Trust me...

I know everyones ears are different but IMO, Nothing under $150 can touch the Cal's soundwise.  Point blank, I've tried just about everything under the $200 range and the Cal's just can't be beat.  Only one can IMO is a tad better and that's the HD558. My 558 was $105 and I feel that was a steal.   But the Cal's cost what $60 in the US and I've seen them as low as $49 on Amazon. It's a No Brainer.  You have to jump way up the chain to get an upgrade over the...
Time to thin a few phones out that aren't getting any use. First up is a basically new HD201 I bought from Best Buy in Jan basically for some modding. I added a pair of HD 419 Velours and recabled them with a 4 ft Denon D2000 Cable.  I'm asking $30, you figure I paid full retail of $30 and the Velours cost me $18 from Sennheiser.     Next up is another basically new HD 439 I also bought in Jan.  I have done the Bass mod (One Hole)..I paid full retail...
Ditto- I have both the 558 & 598 right here, and I'll say the difference between the 2 aren't as great as a few people claim. For me the 558 with the tape pulled out sounds better for my taste. The Bass is better and the soundstage between the 2 isn't really that much greater.  Is the $100 price points worth it?, IMO not really.  I'd say grab a 558, do the 5 min mod and call it a day. Buy some music with the extra $100.
Jazzman I have a lower model Denon and I'll say the headphone out will not push 600ohm headphones good at all. Denon's head out is VERY weak on all models. Lucky for me I have line out and just feed my M-Stage.  Depending on your set up it might be most price effective to buy a use Denon, I know it's sounds crazy but my 5.1 set up you can get refurb/new for $130 or so.  I can't understand the Denon line up, the higher you move up the chain the less features you get. ...
