I suggest to try the new TungSol 6SN7GTB as a driver tube, in my EL34 SET amp it sounds equal or even better than a few NOS I've at hand: Sylvania 6SN7GT VT-231 bottom getter green label, two pair of Sylvania 6SN7GTB chrome top yellow label, Philips 6SN7 WGTA JAN green label and a new ElectroHarmonix 6SN7. In my setup of course and I don't have a tester to check if the NOS tubes are really new even if they came from reputable sellers, anyway it means it's a very good tube...
I don't use iPeng anymore, but you could check it easily since FLAC will work with LMS/iPeng.If not for higher than 24/96 you could try to convert those FLAC to ALAC first or use a DLNA/UPnP server on-the-fly conversion to be iOS compatible.Let me know so I can update the guide accordigly your results.
I've just updated the first post to simplify a few things. Generally the guide needs a bit more update, but it's still useful for the beginners to understand why some DACs or software won't work regardless of settings and to stream DSD to iOS.
So how's the P5 sound now? They're my best portable headphones, but at the beginning I hated them exactly like you, unimpressed at the point I was asking myself how B&W could sell this crap! Don't mess filling pads the first days, they need to memorize your ear shape, just let them play a lot, and maybe later do the mod only if bass is too boomy. My last pair of pads were OK from start and don't need any mod. I believe B&W made its own mod in the meantime.
Of course it's possible to stream those big DSD files to iPhone/iPad without buffering issues! It can be done in the home network and even on the go using portable battery powered wi-fi server devices (Seagate Wireless Plus or LaCie Fuel for example). If you can't, there's something wrong in your setup: hardware or software.Any piece of the chain must be choosen and set-up properly or you'll not succeed, that's why I've started this thread, it's not so simple! You need to...
Thanks for sharing but I'm not able to follow your istructions using telnet included in Windows 7. First I was able to connect only using "open" command, since "telnet" command is not recognized.Second, I was able just once to "open 172.25.0.1", but then the command line ln -s /media/sda2/java/ejre1.7.0_71/bin/java /usr/local/bin has not create anything. Now I receive an "impossible to connect..." message every time I try to "open 172.25.0.1". So I can't try anything...
HiGrahamL, Thanks for sharing. Could you give us detailed istructions on how to directly extract DoP ALAC from DSF without converting them first to DoP FLAC in foobar? Let us know. Thank you
Thanks for the tip, but I've tried that and still crashes, I still have to convert twice for now.
Thanks for the tip, but JRiver has same behavior as before: or it crashes ot I get DoP ALAC at 352,8Khz 24bit (no options are configurable under DSP settings after DSD1x is selected).   Where is located and which device or software has the "Advance" > "Rescan Interval" you're referring to?
Thank you very much for the translation, I'll try it on the Seagate Wireless Plus 2TB in the following days and let you know. BTW, after I've loaded into it nearly 1,5 TB of music it is very slow to scan all files (1 hour to be ready) and it do it everytime you restart it, not practical at all. So for now that slow scan issue is much more important than find a solution to convert directly to DoP ALAC from DSF (JRiver crashes for me but I can still use safely that trick in...
