I would love to know how the sound compares and is there anything on the market with a USB DAC that would be comparable. I am using it to drive Grado RS1's but have just bought a pair of Audio Technica ATH M50 headphones for mobile music. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
I have decided to sell my Xin Supermacro 3 with the intention of replacing it with a similar headphone amp. The reason for sale is that I want to use the headphone amp with my PC via a USB DAC. I did have a Headroom Bithead but generally disappointed with it. Could anyone recommend an alternative. I am looking at the Practical Devices XM6. I will be driving a few types of headphones including some in-ears and Grado's, but nothing too difficult, but would like to know if...
Ive been using a pair of UE Superfi 5's since 2005-06 and they're still holding up well.

Thanks for all the help. I will go for the DAC optical route. Any suggestions on DAC's around the $500 mark. It would be nice to go for the DAC1 but I would like to hear something first in this cost region. My only concern that the DAC is recognised by the G5 when connected. I am looking for a sound signature similar to an SM3 or AE-1 and Grado combo - good sound stage, natural sounding bass, good seperation in the mids.
I am thinking of upgrading my sound card in my G5 has anyone got any suggestions? At some point I would like to add a decent dac to that as well. At the moment I am using a Total Bithead via USB and although I am happy with the sound feel that I could improove on this.

It sounds pretty good but I was wondering how it would sound with other opamps. What other opamp can be used? AD8066? AD845? Seeking valuable advice from fellow HeadFi'ers. Thanks and best regards. Nice thing about the SM3 is it is truely portable and with various switches and opamps to choose from can be made to suit what you are using. I've used it with Etys, Grados and HD650's and...
I hear definate audible noise with the Total Bithead when listening with sensitive earphones like UE5c or Sure earphones. However, no such noise with HD650 headphones. As mentioned previously in this thread it is not so pronounced using line out, or connected to a PC. It completely disappears when I use my SM3. Best look at something like the SM3 or the new AE-1
