Hey everyone,   So, over the past two weeks, all my headphone equipment has died. The shanling's input selector switch broke internally (can't go to either input, is just lodged permanently between the two, shorting the power switch it seems), and the HE-5's cable broke inside the left ear-cup cable. So now, I'm looking for recommendations on what I should be looking at, since I haven't been keeping up that much, and it seems things have changed dramatically. I have...
cool. I'll check it out. thanks :)
Hi guys, I know there are a ton of threads like this, but none of them seemed to quite address this particular use-case, so if I just missed one, I apologize. I'm looking for a super simple dac recommendation. I don't mean simple as in crappy, but simple as in, I don't need or want USB or volume control or really anything more than coax or optical in, and analog out (preferably supporting up to 24/192khz). My setup is a computer with the Asus Xonar Essence STX card, a...
So, my old-ass pci emu 0404 died last night in a blaze of glory. Not being a big fan of spending money on **** I already owned, I am now looking to upgrade, instead of replace. Currently I'm leaning toward just getting an external DAC. My setup is as follows: Windows 7 PC->?->Shanling ph100(I think that's the number, the $200-300 headphone amp)->Hifiman HE-5s as well as a Marantz integrated amp hooked to a pair of Dali Mentor 2 speakers. What I'm considering are the...
Hey everyone, I finally took the plunge and got a Shanling ph100 to replace my home-made cmoy. First off, I was surprised at what a huge difference it really makes with my HD600s. I was listening to some of my older crappy mp3s and for the first time I could tell which were low bitrate or badly encoded joint-stereo without even trying. Anyway, my setup is now an emu 0404 out to the ph100 to some hd600s. I'm looking to add a new pair of headphones for a different...
Mostly just looking to hear something new, I'm not that picky about the type of sound. Hmmm.... maybe I should just man-up and buy an amp too. They aren't THAT expensive...
No senns just because I already had the HD600 and I'm looking for something new. I guess my question is, will a unamped (or under amped) Denon 5000 or AKG 701 actually sounds worse than the a900, or will it just not be living up to it's full potential (but still be comparable to the a900 until I get a better amp)?
I'm looking to pick up some new cans to replace my broken hd600's. Initially I'll be amping them with a battery powered cmoy amp I made (nothing special) but I will probably buy a better amp down the line. My options are as follows... Denon AH-D5000 AKG K701 DT 880/990 Audio Technica a900 I can get all four of these for basically the same price... so that's where the advice comes in. It seems like the Denon is a great deal for $300, as is the AKG for $260,...
well, my source is okay. It's a pc with an X-FI or an Emu 0404 (I've been using the x-fi more just because it's a lot more convenient for games). I'm also looking at the grados (325 or rs-1), part of me would rather save some money, but I also can't quite convince myself to downgrade from the hd600s.
So my Sen HD600s have gone bad. No audio out of the left can and I can't find a way to fix it. They served me well. Instead of just rebuying a new pair or paying to fix them, I've decided to upgrade. I'm actually considering a pair of Denon d5000's or Audio Technica w1000 (the wood finish is really appealing) but I'm very open to suggestion. I know those will be more expensive than my goal, so I'm also considering cheaper, easier to amplify phones. I guess my main...
