They're all coming to me in the mail from various bits and places. 700 odd dollars and a ton of research later, I think I purchased the best system I could have purchased for that price point. Anybody have any comments? I think i'm going to take this place off bookmarks forever and never come back after it all gets to me, this is the most insanely expensive board i have ever visited. Also, i hook up 2 quarter jack cables from the analog L/R out of the EMU card into...
I have a pair of used Sennheiser HD590s. They are about a year old, and the lettering on the right can is partially faded, and the left can actually has a mis-lettering of HD500. The sound quality has not been affected, these are a pair of well broken in headphones. They sound great, I'm getting rid of these because I just bought a pair of very expensive grados and these among others have got to go. I have the original box, and I can include a mini-1/4" gold...
the ASL MG head DT series (non OSL) are normally considered to be a bad idea with grados right? Im thinking to just go with the Gilmore Lite and never worry about tubes again, but there's just something about that awesome tube glow
I currently own MS-1s and love the grado sound, i also own Senn 590s and B&O A8s and I think the Grado sound makes you wanna dance. I'm really torn between what amp to get though, because I think that either a MS-2 or 325i is in my future. Its either a Mapletree Ear+ for the tube rolling fun, of which i have NO idea how to do any of and would love to learn, or the Gilmore Lite which is easy and simple and everybody says it rocks. I just want to get the most out...
judging by the ms-1s, i'm a big fan of the grado presentation. It just sounds more alive and in your face than my hd590s ever did, given that those headphones aren't exactly the most favored Senns on the board. I thought 325is because they were the new improved version, with gold cups, and everybody said it was good. It's around 295, which is what I want to spend on headphones. I've been doing lots of research, and I think that the Gilmore Lite seems to be the best...
Im finally going to splurge around 700 bucks at one time and just get the freaking headphone setup i want and hopefully never look at this site again. Currently, i own these: Sennheiser HD590 (from years ago) B&O A8s and Alessandro MS-1s with vwaps. I've had HD570s in the past, and while I enjoy the Sennheiser the minute I listened to the MS-1s I was so impressed that I haven't plugged in the 590s again. I have absolutely no grado discomfort with the modded 414s,...
I looked at the specs across the line, and the nominal impedence for grados were 32ohms. Now everybody is saying how the higher end sennheisers with 300ohm impedence or whatever needs more juice, but I dont understand how an amp could help out grados when it looks like it can be driven easily by just about any headphone jack out there
thanks to everybody, especially saint.panda for that amazing writeup, for all your tips and suggestions. dallasstar: i originally thought the iriver's were a decent source, considering the amount of people that own IHPs and list them in their sigs. Im going to upgrade to an emu 0404, and then that will be my final audio upgrade. i'll do the 3 day with/3 day without test as well, and report the differences. I'll look for the things that saint.panda suggested, and come...
after i upgrade to an EMU 0404, should I purchase a gilmore lite and see if there's any difference? Or should I just chalk myself up as an unaudiophile and save all the money I can.
