Question(s): how good / bad is the cable on the MKII? Compared to the MKI cable? Is it microphonic / does it harden / is it difficult to wear over-the-ear without ear guides? I am keen on either this or the e-Q5 but am not sure the latter will fit well for me - however the complaints I've read about the cable seem rather worrisome.   Thanks!
That's exactly what I was hearing as well, but didn't quite know how to express. It almost seems as if AT was too worried about bleed between the mids and the bass, and so tuned it this way as a compromise...       Ha, I ended up using my IEMs instead of earplugs at firing ranges when I could get away with it...
I've had the DBA02 and currently own the CKM500. I suspect you'll find the DBA02 too bass light for your taste, to varying degrees, which would probably mean (going from what others have said on these forums) that the GR01 - which has a very similar sound to the DBA02 - would be bass light as well. The CKM500 might be worth a punt: 1) they're less than $80 shipped 2) you'll have something to use as a basis for comparison, instead of having to imagine everything in...
Shouldn't there be three pairs of spare tips...? They're the same, just of different sizes.
These earphones have brought me back to the world of Head-Fi... oh dear.   Got these from CDJapan after I recently lost my DBA-02. I must confess, I thought those were going to be the end of my portable audio journey for some time - back then the GR07 hadn't been released, the idea of a 'balanced' dynamic IEM didn't really exist, and to my ears the DBA-02 sounded better on balance than any of the other BAs out there.   So thanks heaps to Dsnuts and ericp10 for...
quick update on my tips situation - I fiddled with different insertion angles and now I'm getting what I think must be the sound everyone's raving about with the smallest stock silicone tips. Also bought Shure grey soft flex tips, which work as well (as mentioned elsewhere on the forum / this thread). Interestingly, the medium-sized tips seal better, but don't sound as good (less clarity, less bass). The DBA-02s seem unique in that depth of insertion is more important...
Thanks, I'll try the Klipsch gels if I can (can't take triple flanges!), between the Complys and the stock silicone tips I'm getting what one might call 'normal BA bass' and nothing more. Maybe shouldn't have expected more to begin with.   (Would the CK90Pro or the e-Q5 be a better complement, if I were looking for better bass quantity / extension?)   Nonetheless, the rest of the frequency spectrum is pretty impressive. Off to enjoy...
so despite being relatively unimpressed the first time I heard them (cf. my post in the e-q5 impressions thread) I went back to try them on a few times in store... am pretty sure they got tired of seeing me step out and in. The more I listened to them the more they grew on me: and there would always be times when I would find myself tapping my feet to the music, utterly blown away by their speed and clarity.   to cut a long story short, I took a leap of faith and...
@Anaxilus   yup, they do hit hard, but they don't reproduce the low bass rumble in the background of some tracks as well as the e-q5. Different strokes, I guess... think I'll give the DBA-02 another long listen in the store. Might yet get both.   How similar / different are the e-q5 (or e-q7) and CK90 Pro, if anyone's heard both? No chance of testing the latter where I am. I'm currently using the CK70 Pro which I assume should sound similar to its dual-driver...
I've heard both the DBA-02s and e-q5s as well, but only briefly at local stores instead of having the chance to listen to them at my leisure. Based on what people are saying about the difficulty in getting a 'perfect' fit with the DBA-02s I don't think it's really possible to give any meaningful impressions off maybe a half-hour of listening :\   That being said, I prefer the e-q5s, to my ears they sound more 'natural' than the DBA-02 which has obvious technical...
