What about the V-Moda m80? Joker seemed to really like them especially for the mids. He gave the M80 a higher score than the m50 in his headphone review thread.

yeah I say get him some v-moda m80s if you can find a cheap pair or maybe v-moda crossfades since he might enjoy the consumer sound signature more. I would recommend other headphones but since he is a kid, durability is a huge factor...

Surprisingly the bass doesn't take much away. I was really impressed with the IEM, it would be my go to set right now if I hadn't given the pair to my brother who actually also has the M9 but never uses them... If you havent done so...
I'd get the JVC. In my opinion, they just blow away the M9's..I never really enjoyed any of my Meelec iems. Most seemed to have a fit and driver flex issue that just really annoyed me...
