1. Tony Bennett Awesome Edition Vol. 2 (with M50 pads and desktop amp/dac ONLY) 2. Q701 (stock or modded) 3. HD-650 4. HD-598   #1 is there because neither of the rest really do anything better. They do everything WORSE. The ONLY advantage they have is that they're open. HD-650 costs $500 retail and manages to sound more muffled and less clear than my $50 headphone. Luckily bass ported modded Q701 gets close to the TB sound, but still can't compare in low bass...
You could say that, but stock it's never really cold/analytical itself. The bass mod definitely made it sounds much fuller in the mids. Graphs seem to say otherwise, but that's what I hear! This stock Q701 with a good amp/dac can be sort of chameleon like (but NOT like the DT-880!). Sometimes how warm/cold it is depends on the actual recording. I've always said that sometimes with REALLY horrible tracks it can sound like an AD700(!) and on others almost like an HD-650....
The Fiio E9 has tons of power and is not a low power output amp. Maybe you were referring to the E10 or similar. The E9 itself probably has just as much power output into 62ohm as the Matrix M-Stage. Someone should look it up. I wouldn't be surprised. No, not say the E9 is as good or better.. The E9 basically makes the Q701 sounds nearly the same as it does on the Ifi iCAN and Schiit Vali. A little worse, but the same general sound signature (neutral). I do agree that the...
Definitely would have to disagree with this. For ME the Q701 has always been warm. No doubt about it. On the O2 and Magni + a bright source (such as an Ipod Touch 2G) it's much less warm and more sparkly and thinner. If I ever find the Q701 NOT warm then I know something is wrong. Possibly bad DAC and Amp combination. None of my gear is dark or warm really at all. I think the modded Q701 (the above notes were stock) is very close in sound to my HD-650, but the HD-650 is...
Wow, Vali aggressive and Grado like? I can't agree with that at all and if I heard this I would have gotten rid of it for that reason alone. That's more like the Magni (yet that's still fairly neutral). That type of sound signature doesn't go well with the Q701.   Maybe it's rather just your songs, DAC or headphone?   I'll agree that the Q701 is a great match for the Vali. Vali and my favorite Q701 amp (that originally cost $350) sounded almost identical. Vali was...
Amazing Spider Man 2 - 6/10   I wonder when i'll actually see a super hero movie I love? Seems impossible. Now that I think of it, I liked the original "Batman" but not so much the latest ones.   BTW do you remember "Darkman"? I need to watch that again.
I've never heard from one person who claimed they couldn't tell the difference between the two. Not to be a jerk, but if they can't I would take all their reviews with a huge grain of salt. Sorry! You could probably get them to sound similar if both (or just one) was under-driven. I also agree the K712 is more comfortable (not due to headband only). I'm glad K712 finally figured a way to have their memory foams NOT go flat like they do on the old Annie. Believe it or not I...
T1 is not quite as good as the DJ100 though! The T1 is also much easier to drive and only needs a Fiio E1. I'm sure there are lots of headphone under $250 that are closed and better than the DJ100.The problem is that it costs a lot of money to find them. I can't really buy any new headphones.I'm sure i'll probably not like the DT1350 since I can't stand on-ear headphones usually.Have you tried the DT-235? That one is very good though for the price and also on-ear. Believe...
Yep, I never meant to say "best for everyone under $200". I can't help it if people want to think that. Everything I say is just IMO. Everything here is always just subjective. To me, there is no such thing as best headphone for under $50, $100 and $1000. Just what I prefer. Ever since i've been on here i've never found anyone who liked the exact same headphones I do. Maybe one. I also listen to very specific genres, but do try many before reviewing a headphone. I'm not...
Dang, I totally missed this post.Bravo V2 just annoys my ears with the Q701. It makes the Q701 sounds a bit too thin and harsh. Too trebly. I would say it's similar to how it sounds with the Magni and stock O2, but not as good.Even adding a warmer sounding source doesn't help much. I even swapped out the tubes without much change.I have a feeling the Bravo V2 just doesn't have enough juice for the Q701 or is just bad synergy. The V2 however sounds great with the...
