That's a very interesting bit of info, thanks. I hadn't really thought about this detail. Does the 02 work in the same way? or is this an advantage for the C5?
useful to know thanks!   one more question, are any other colours planned for the C5?
Edited my post, the IEM bit is probably irrelevant to use on the desktop, but the no channel imbalance is the key reason I'm interested in this.
How suitable is the C5 as a desktop amp? does it charge whilst in use?   I read somewhere that the C5 is recommended for IEMs/headphones of 32Ω or greater, but the C5 output impedance is stated as 2Ω on the specification page. I'm considering some Sony earphones that are 16Ω, so by the ⅛ ruile of thumb the C5 should be suitable?
Thanks :) I was really hoping that you might answer as you really seem to know your X-Fi's (I also just bought a Titanium HD in preference to ZXR based on your discussion in your binaural thread - I wanted the HD also for some retro games but on a newer system, iirc you said that where supported the software effects aren't quite as good as the original hardware driven version, and that suits me fine as I buy most of my games on gog.com)   I don't have an XP licence,...
EDIT: card is gone so the questions are moot, but thanks to Nameless for the quick history lesson below, it's much appreciated!   There is a small possibility that I could get an X-Fi xtreme for approx €30-€35, I need to find out which version it is, but I have questions anyway as I've actually no idea if these cards are worth having. I would install the card in an old system, uses I have in mind would be retro gaming, some music listening , and some TV...
Whatever happened to the Objective Desktop Amplifier design from nwavguy? the blog hasn't been updated since May, is the project dead or are you still expecting to have an ODA product Oliver?
The concept behind the Recon3D USB soundcard seems great, but it doesn't look like a product that has great sound quality and as far as I can tell there is no CMSS or Dolby Headphone. So I'm wondering, what alternatives are there that might be of better sound quality and/or allow users to choose between CMSS, Dolby Headphone & THX Trustudio Pro?  I'm actually not sure there is anything on PCI or PCIe that incorporates a variety of these positional audio systems in one...
I'll be watching the feedback, reviews and comments with great interest. I've had the RE262 for a few weeks now, and while I'm holding off making a definitive judgement until I've had more time and figured out how to get the best fit, I do like them a lot. However I have been wondering if the promised improved treble might make the RE272 a more engaging listen.
is you click the parent page, or search "HPGEODDSALE2011" and click results in Electronics you'll see many other deals inc. a few other IEMs:   Panasonic RP-HJE900E-K - £79.99   Panasonic RP-HJE700E-S - £17.99   Logitech Ultimate Ears 700 - £69.99   Logitech Ultimate Ears 600vi - £59.99   Logitech Ultimate Ears 300vi - £24.99     There is an alternate page for € prices, though usually Play.com's prices for the rest of Europe are terrible.
