After I upgraded my N900 Exynos to KitKat 4.4.2, l suddenly noticed its music sound kicked ass. l was really amazed to find out it sounds totally different than before: the sound has become more natural, with a solid and punchy bass, and superior imaging. Before the upgrade I had bought a pair of Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear, which disappointed me so much that I stopped wearing them. After the upgrade l wondered why my daily driver Monster Turbines started to sound so much...
Which player?
I'm not sure what you all guys mean by too much bass. After a proper break-in like 100+ hours it disappears, and the sound becomes very smooth and pleasant. I did observe the boomy bass at first myself, and sometimes had to EQ it to levels well below the 0 point
bmichels,What are these beautiful cans? :)
I purchased my MOE 2 days ago. Out of the box it sounded rather rough with a clear accent on the bass. I then auditioned it at home and was immediately disappointed - as my benchmark was Grado SR60, the MOE didn't provide enough transparency and imaging the Grado did. I then decided to give it a break. Literally: my Grado had needed at least 80 hours of break-in, before it fully revealed itself, and it was a turnaround that almost blew me away. I was about to hook it up...
A very good post indeed! You've brought to the spotlight what I was long suspecting. I'm on the international exynos version, and to me it sounds good enough to use with my Grado SR60's. So good that I render any thought of an additional DAC hookup redundant thus far. The source's refinement or flaw comes out with time - the longer you listen the more you realize. I for one have come to look forward to Grado setup listening - as a matter of fact, the Grado's had been lying...
I've noticed the Note 3 sounds best with 32 Ohm head/earphones, like the stock ones. The 32 Ohm Grado SR60 sounds fantastic, the stock earbuds sound decent too. But... the 16 Ohm Monster Turbine sounds very dull and bass-less. On the contrary - it shone on my previous HTC Rezound, which apparently was tuned for low Ohm headphones.    I tried hooking up uDAC-2 this morning - pretty decent, I was surprise. However, straight out of headphone out the Note 3 sounded fuller...
turokrocks, What Beyerdynamic version is in the pictures?
1) On Hydro - no comment2) Note 3 - which version?? "Sounded bad" how? Headphones out or line out? What headphones/system then? What player on the Note 3?
I read it - crap. Just no need to argue really, same sort of discussion as if I talked mp3 guys into jumping lossless - the difference they wouldn't hear anyway. My current setup is Note 3 exynos + Grado Sr60i. Seems decent enough, to my surprise and amazement, as at first I was sure it would sound crappy. With that in mind, I had spent nearly 2 weeks after I bought the device not even bothering to listen, was I so sure it was crappy. It is not! I look no further so far...
