Hi KaBAKZ   I have used my AKG K702 headphones for a few years now and I absolutely love them. These are truly great headphones.   I will now comment on the issues you have raised.   Amplification   Well I haven't heard the "magni/modi" that you have so I have no idea about that.   My personal preference is for solid state amplification. Some people might suggest valve amps (known as tube amps in the US) but my own experience is that good solid state amplifiers...
I really like my AKG K 550 which seem to fulfil the criteria in the original post well.   I would question the desire for "warm" sounding headphones. Obviously "warm" can mean many things however personally I find any audio equipment that warms up the sound to be really unattractive after a period of time.   Personally I always seek out neutral and transparent equipment because I want to hear the music not the equipment.   AKG K 550s are not warm, they are for the...
I have K 702s and the Sennheiser HD 540 Reference Golds. Earlier I wrote I had the K 701s however my K 702s are the K 701s with a detachable cables and very dark blue in colour. The sound of the Sennheiser HD 540 Ref Golds is certainly very different indeed from the K 702s. I don't think that conflicts with them having similar measurements. I do believe that measurements are extremely valuable but it is absolutely possible for audio equipment to have very similar...
Well, I have the AKG K701 and a pair of Sennheiser HD540 Reference Gold headphones. I bought my HD540 headphones new in 1991 and the K701s I bought a couple of years ago. The easy answer from me to your question is that there are no similarities imho between these two headphones. The K701s produce a very wide soundstage and place instruments within it superbly. The tone of the instruments is superb. The K701s have very well defined bass but they will not produce thick...

I agree that audio is a well understood science and that our perception of sound is not well understood. The human hearing did not develop to test out audio products, it developed to assist with the survival of the human species. While human hearing is extremely sensitive it is subject to our psychological state. There has been tremendous work on this by Pawel J. Jastreboff in particular when dealing with the problem of tinnitus and other medical condition. Jastreboff's...
Well I do agree with you. The AKG K550 headphones give you terrific sound quality and isolation. There are better sounding headphones of course, but it is hard to find headphones that offer this combination of sound quality and isolation. I have never found the K550s to be bass light, however I will say that I don't listen to music with really heavy bass. Amongst my own collection of headphones the K550s are the ones I turn to if I want bass with some weight to it ☺ I...
The coolest circum-aural headphones I have are my AKG K702 headphones. These are of pretty much the same design as the K701, Q701 and several other models.   I do think that supra-aural headphones can be suited to hotter weather. I like my B & W P5 headphones in very hot weather, I have used them when travelling in Italy and Romania in very hot weather. These have leather ear pads which might help.
Hi Thank you for telling me about your experiences with these headphones. I find the AKG K845BT to be of interest because I really like my AKG K550 headphones and the AKG K845BT looks to be of a similar design. The first priority is signal strength because of the particular use I have is for use when doing housework. I like to watch TV programs on my MacBook Pro but I need to go into other rooms all the time, and with the very cheap Sandstrom headphones I have they lose...
