Hey RallyMaster
The D2000 is better than the RX700 and RX900 in every way. In comparison, the JVCs are muffled and boomy and the highs are rolled off. I did the felt mod on both JVCs and that helped alot. I then switched the pads from the RX900 to the RX700 to see if that helped. Not so much.
At first, the difference was noticeable but wasn't that great. I then did some very light modding on my D2000 by removing the cups and adding 1 large cotton ball behind each driver for dampening. This made a huge difference to my ears by tightening the bass. I then tried stuffing the pads (similar to the Markl mods) and didn't care for it, so I reversed it.
The JVCs are back in their boxes in my closet. Out of the two, I like the RX700 the most. I will probably use them as practice headphones for wiring and I may try some different mods to them. The RX700 is not a bad headphone at all. One thing I did find was that I preferred the RX700 with an SS amp over tubes...FWIW.
Hi ecclesand. I noticed that you have the JVC RX700, RX900 and the Denon D2000 so I was wondering if the D2000 is worth getting because I own both the RX700 and the RX900 and the Sennheiser HD595. At the moment, I'm feeling like the HD595 provides me with details that neither the RX700 nor the RX900 can provide but it sacrifices the bass and leaks noise like all open headphones. I am intending on consolidating my collection and selling the RX700 and the RX900 for a single, higher-end closed headphone (because I'm spoiled on how good the HD595 sounds). What are your thoughts on this?
