I vote no , not only because I've had problems with both pairs, but also because I think it should be a must for all Higher-End earphones to have replaceable cords. These things are just too expensive to replace just because of a faulty $20 cord.

I would prefer a detachable more like the UE/Etys/Westone, softer, twisted pair type of cable, I even requested that from them, and the answer was that unfortunatelly there is simply no physical space on the images for a connector of any kind, a real shame IMO, as if they were detachable a new $20.00 cable will do the trick, instead of a full, more costly for them, replacement in case of unfortunate failures/accidents of the cable...As a side note Sleek, adopted that route, and even while I do not like the cable too much neither, at least we can replace it as it get damaged...

EDIT: I have adjusted my position on the cable I hate the cable, I'd be much happier if the cable used on the custom series were more supple. As far as replaceable I do not see that as a deal breaker and I flatly love my C3's but the cable material was a bad choice IMO.

I have the Customs and I like the cable, but like Mark I want them to be detachable.

I am very surprised that anyone likes the cloth woven cables. Why do you like the cloth? Only good thing about the cable is that its thin, and doesn't tangle up so easily. But these are 300+ msrp, so they should not tangle at all and should be lightweight.

Well I'm a new x10 owner but I'm scared ****less now because of this issue. Though I love them I'm contemplating trading them for another brand. I don't want the risk and the hassle of dealing with it.

I still say I love my custom 3's even with the crappy cable, and will stay with them till the warranty is over, then i'll be worried, and may switch to Westone 3 depending on how the Custom 3's fair the two years. Would easily be best Over the Ear earphones if the cable was better.

I have an X5 and I have no problems with the cable's fragility. It seems fine to me. I've only owned it for 2 months though.
What I don't like it how microphonic it is. It's only the second in ear that I've owned that had severe microphonics from a breeze. It's also extremely microphonic with my beard, which can't be cured with a clip, but can be cured by putting the cables over your ears. The form factor makes it awkward to put the cables over your ears however. They're also impossible to wear under a hat with the cables over my ears which makes them unusable most days this time of year. I love how they sound, but I'm still using my UM1 much more than them because I need to keep my ears warm. |

I love my custom threes and even though I read several different threads about the cable life I still decided to go with them I am extremely happy with the sound quality, the cable issue is going to be a factor when the time comes to get a new pai,r hopefully Klipsch will come up with a tripple Driver, Replaceable cord model which I gladly pay the extra costs for.

Best is to have a modular cable system where people can order different kinds of cables (woven, none-woven, Y-style, J-style, wireless, etc.). That way everybody wins, even Klipsch (who will make a killing selling high-margin cables).
