It would be up to the people who host/throw the next event and only those people can decide what to call it.
seems to be a tradition to change the name every year. to me there will only be one headfest and one canjam any other event called by those names would just be a rip off. if you want a name to rock every year then don't b/s around it..just call it "high end headphone convention" and thats it.

I could not make up my mind, so voted 'maybe'..
Both "Can Jam" and "Head Fest" are more or less self explaining and works for me.

Whoever does this next year, do whatever you want. No one can force them to use the name. They can buy their own lanyards or have someone else sponsor them. It would be a shame to waste the ones we have available but it's not my decision. I'm not sure I see how they wouldn't work with next years badges. If it were me, I would use them and make sure they work with next years badges to save the expense.

at any rate, the credit goes to mr nightwoundstime for coming up with that name, if next years event could really be named whatever i wanted, i would honestly pick bobs world of headphones but i dont think such frivolity will go well with serious members of headfi. i also doubt sponsors will think it to be a serious and solemn affair (with the exception of tyll of course )

To play Devil's Advocate: some freaking lanyards might prevent changing the name of the meet!? All of a sudden a group of audiophiles is concerned with saving money!? If anything, waste and excess is part of the spirit of audiophilia! All of a sudden a group of manic spenders is fiscally responsible? I'm sorry guys, but where's adherence to the Head-Fi slogan?

I guess next time you should step up to the plate, sign the contract with the venue and hope that it all works out.

i might be misguided here but i thought audiophilia was about paying obscene amounts of money to get good sound and enjoy music even more with the better sound. nowhere was it mentioned in the memo that money had to be wasted...after all bose is a waste of money. you dont see master tyrion here going out and buying a pair just because it is a waste of money. on the other hand i doubt any headfier would think twice before spending over a thousand dollars on a pair of k1k's if they had the means to do it.
i am probably wrong but i certainly dont subscribe to the notion of headfiers being a wasteful lot.
ps. what about "bose sucks '09" or "my headphones can kick your headphones' ass 09"?

Sorry, forgot the " " I totally appreciate all the sacrifices you guys make to put on the meets. But I still think that the title should change yearly. If I planned a national meet, I would want some input about the title.

Sorry, guys but having the name changed only twice for an event that is only 3 years old is hardly a tradition.
That said, I would leave it up to the next group that is organizing the 2009 International Head-Fi Meet.
Yeah, either way, I think some kind of established name needs to be picked. International Head-Fi Meet just doesn't roll of the tongue. Neither does it's acronym. "IHM" Or "IHFM" Yeah.

Last time I'll crap this thread:
Ok, so when those guys came up with Brilliant Pebbles, that was playing into the fiscally responsible nature of audiophiles? I would say that audiophiles make mostly informed decisions, but honestly, what about some of those ridiculous tweaks? There are some audiophiles, not necessarily HFers, that DO waste money. Whenever you spend a good amount of money, on a whim, on something that does not work as advertised, that is what I would call a waste.
Back on topic:
I think there are good arguments both for and against making CanJam permanent. But the main argument against it is that those who plan the meet should get to choose the title.

Isn't the pattern here
< Short Snappy Name>: the < Long definitive descriptive name>
as in
Head Fest: the 2007 Head-Fi International Meet
Can Jam '08: the Head-Fi International Meet Florida Edition (2008)
Thus
Can Fest '09: the Head-Fi International Meet LAX Edition (2009)
or
Head Jam '09: the Head-Fi International Meet L.A. Edition (2009)

head (fest/jam) can take on some seedy undertones.
something like canjam headphone expo 09 is pretty unambiguous, but whatever we call it isn't really all too important.
