i have to go to the boca mall today, only authorised apple store in the area. just like dell, apple products have a marvelous proclivity for breaking down a day after the warranty is over. my sisters ipod was purchased a year and 3 days ago and last night it died. boom, any suggestions on how to talk to "apple people"? do they respond to groveling or high nosed annoyance?

I on the other hand have never bought a single thing from the Apple store, despite having visited there several times. It was tempting to by my Shure E4 there way back in the day, considering how much I hate ordering online (my ESW9 problem right now is a good example of why I hate ordering online). Anyway, my hatred of the Apple store won out and I ordered from one of the sponsors.

In my case it is the other way around - I might not be near a meet of this size ever again!
I'm living in Australia (Sydney) and I've been lurking on the forums for a while. I'm interested in upgrading my headphones so I can have a reasonably hi-fi experience at night when others have gone to bed. I'm also interested in IEMs for isolation because I used to travel internationally a bit for work before I got a chronic (non-contagious) illness, and I like isolation when I'm concentrating at the office.
I saw the CanJam graphic a few times but didn't give it much thought because it was in the US. Recently I've planned a carefully controlled work trip (unless my health gets significantly worse in the next week or two). Fortunately I looked at the CanJam graphic again more carefully this time - my trip is to Fort Lauderdale, and it is the week before CanJam weekend. You've got to be kidding! What great luck! So I extended my trip for a day and I'll be there Saturday and part of Sunday
You'll recognize me - I'll be the one with the Aussie accent with slight American overtones from living in the SF Bay Area for about five years, but the real giveaways are courtesy of my treatment regime. I'll be avoiding as much daylight exposure as possible, and will normally be covered up almost completely no matter how warm the weather, and wearing dark wraparound sunglasses indoors (and another layer of sunglasses over the top when outside). Tends to attract extra attention from security types at airports though
Looking forward to meeting you all and hearing some interesting gear!

Welcome to Head-Fi -- and CanJam -- Mazz, and sorry about your wallet! Great decision making, by the way, on your trip planning and extension. You will be very pleased, and the meet rooms will be completely window-less if my memory is correct. I live in SF, so search me out and we can talk about your Bay Area years.
Cheers!

He'll be easy to find, as he'll be the giant drunk robot.

Mazz, best first post ever! Welcome to head-fi and CanJam. Voltron will be the giant drunken robot, and I'll be the pale, middle-age, female Floridian (don't do sun either). It will be hard to miss either of us, so make sure to say hello.

Thanks Voltron - and I can see what you mean about the wallet already! I had already broached the possibility - and price - of perhaps getting UE-10s with my wife (surprisingly) without major upset. (It probably helps that I just turned 40 and haven't talked AT ALL about buying a sports car ) But I haven't used IEMs before so maybe I need to start out with a cheaper pair (LiveWires or SuperFreqs?) to see if I can live with them. And while that will be very useful, maybe it would be better for home listening to get a decent pair of more traditional cans as well. And a decent amp really lifts the experience into another realm...and portable amp requirements are very different from home amp requirements...
...but one thing at a time seems to attract less concern

Definitely. There's an awful lot to love (and miss) about the Bay Area. The decision to return to Australia was very difficult and could easily have gone the other way.

Thanks boomana! Will look out for you. Wearing sunglasses all the time, I still see pretty well in low light but sometimes I miss things. The crown and ceremonial robe that you modestly omitted to mention should help, and I should be able to recognize a giant drunken robot at 30 paces too. Does one need to have imbibed in significant quantities to see the robot, or does everyone have the pleasure?
