I don't know if you know this but the USPS is just about the most expensive way to ship a package. Maybe not for long distances like this (maybe less expensive in fact) but it's also the idea of how many times it would have to change hands as it made its way. I get pretty nervous any time I pack up multiple thousands of dollars of hand made, irreplaceable gear.

EDITAnd it is most certainly not the same amount of $$ to ship via USPS regardless of destination. Maybe for priority mail but many of the packages would be forced to be shipped via parcel post (I just ran the numbers) and the cost can vary by up to 3x depending on destination. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I just shipped a CD player to another member. It would have cost me 50 dollars with UPS, and only 30 with USPS.

Plus, USPS is not currently being sued for insurance fraud

See my edit above. And it's been my experience that you can never tell which service will be the cheapest or quickest for a given location until you run the numbers for each. Regardless, my argument stands, HI would be fracken expensive for everyone involved. Don't get me wrong, I loved visiting there but the number of folks willing to make that type of investment for a headphone meet would be rather small.

Oh, I know it was expensive to have a meet there, I was just wondering why several people keep saying it costs a fortune to ship to hawaii.

I should mention that I would not ship heavy items to hawaii, only small things like cables. Big stuff always goes through UPS.

In that case, I rest my case.

Can we get back to discussing locations that make more sense?

It's a shame there are not very many members here in the midwest. Its a nice central location, and there are lots of larger cities around here that would work. Omaha, Kansas City, St. Louis.

Otherwise I vote for LA, DC, or Detriot, MI

I also think we should attempt to move it into the moth of June, because most students have classes/finals around May, and moving it later would increase attendance.

Likewise.

It's the first meet I've ever been to and I was kind of overwhelmed by everything. On Saturday I arrived about 9:30am and about 90 minutes later I checked the time - only to discover it was already 2pm!

I wish I was in better health and could have stuck around into the evening to spend more time talking to people - but my body was telling me in no uncertain terms to give it a rest by 4:30pm. On Sunday I only had a couple of hours before I had to go catch my flight.

If my health continues to improve I'll be traveling to the USA once or twice a year - so hopefully the Meet Gods will smile on me once more and I'll be able to have a chat with you, somewhere, sometime.

while I enjoy the fun of thinking about a meet in Hawaii or Alaska or Bora Bora for that matter the meet really needs to be held in an area that meets these few criteria.

a large group of local headfiers that will support the meet by attending with their rigs

easy access to a major airport with moderate airfares

a small group of headfiers that step the heck up to take responsibility to organize the meet

local hotel set up for business conferences that can accomodate a large meet room and several vendor rooms

While it's fun to bandy about locations particularly when you don't live their and would not have to do the work required to organize the meet is there any other locations other than Los Angeles that has risen to the challenge
