Florida stepped in and hosted the event to keep the ball rolling.
I would think that in order to be meet ready a team would have to be in place that understands the enormity of the task. This is unlike hosting a local in many ways.
I am with Johnny nums on this one. Chicago is the ideal location for numerous reasons. Chicago is the 3rd largest city in the US, and there is actually a pretty large headfi and audio community here. The past couple of local meets have been around 30 members plus or minus and they have all been very organized. People can fly into ohare and midway, and there are TONS of venues to hold a meet that could rival the numbers that San Jose reached. I would also say that there are plenty of local members that have stepped up for the local meets and I know TRULY they would work their a$$e$ off in doing grunt work and organization (sheesh all else fails I can get my fraternity brothers to be grunts).
Like jp said, we definitely had internal issues, and I know I can say I personally was a BIG part of that (unfortunately). I really wanted it to happen in Chicago and it seemed we were headed in that direction, but personal issues and conflicts got in the way and I personally apologize to the chicago contingent and others who were counting on that to happen, as I know I was a part of that for NOT happening.
I will say that today is a new day and whatever internal issues were there before, I believe they have been resolved. water under the bridge I guess. I will also say that in addition to a strong dedicated local group you definitely need a leader. The only person I feel confident and would put my trust in if CHICAGO were to be the one would be Billy, our very own BHD812. If he is in, I am in, and I basically volunteer to be his b-i-t-c-h if he needs me. I know his thoughts on this matter and I believe his priorities are very different from leading something of this matter. But I will put this out there. If he agrees to be the Michael Jordan for leading a national meet in Chicago, I am 100% in to operate as Scottie Pippen. Or I will be the Robin to his Batman. Louise to his Thelma...ummm...wait, scratch that last one. I would love to be the leadman but honestly Billy to me has proven that he has the smarts and responsibility to lead a national in Chicago. I personally don't think myself or anyone could do as good a job as he could.
Right now I can name you at least 10 headfiers in the chicago metropolitan area who would be able to meet up within the next two weeks and help plan and organize. These guys have shown me that they are truly down and would rock out like no other. But we would need a leader, and IMHO it has to be Billy for Chicago to happen. Billy if your reading this, sometimes for leaders they just have to bear the burden, and I think this would be your ring to bear. But know that you would have a great circle around you helping you out and basically do whatever you told them to do. And I am telling you and everyone that I would be right there next to you bud. Anyone else who doubts that Chicago can do it or thinks we don;t have the people, well I will just say shut up you have no idea, and I personally will put my reputation and can vouch that Billy is the man and the chicago locals are fantastic, 2nd to none. So there you go, I raise DC and LA and I am putting all my chips in the middle.

I'd back a chicago meet and participate in planning if needed, as well. Billy's my boy. I'm behind jpnums, billy, or me in any order for next 3 jams of can.

Highest card? Cage match? Roll some dice? Ouija board? How does it get decided?

I think neutral territory for you three would have to be Vegas. Just decide *who's* planning, and plan it there!

Well, my call would be:
nums, me, beely.
But I'd be ok with any shuffling of that
And I'd hold my own in a game of quarters with nums.

I didn't have you in the mix. With you in there, it would be too close to call.
