Grawk, I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a mac-mini and a duet per your, and other's, recommendation. Probably within the next two months.

The Mac mini is a good choice.
Nice little desktop computer, which is more than powerful enough for most people.

oh, since I'm getting a Mac mini + Duet in a month, and I've never owned a mac before, here are some of my stupid questions:

1) I'm have an external USB hard drive formatted with NTFS, can a Mac mini read files from it??
2) Any players like foobar2000 for Mac with can open FLAC and APE files??
3) which ripping software are you guys using?

3) I rip with max sbooth.org
2) Itunes will open flac with the right plugins, there are other programs like cog and play tho. I just use alac.
1) there are ways to mount ntfs, but you're better off switching to a different fs.

Just to be clear, Macs read from NTFS just fine. So your USB hard drive would work. However, you can't write to NTFS without additional software.

1. Yes, but beware that Mac OS X have read-only NTFS support.
2. Play and http://cogx.org/]Cog are a couple of players.
3. I use Max.

Enjoy the Mac mini.

Xiph.Org: QuickTime Components
Beware that it only support FLAC encoded audio in the Ogg container.
