I'm not even sure I get the reason for this thread*, but if you want a little OS X visual love (yes, stolen) on your generic PC consider a peak at the future with gOS. Yeah, I know it's a simplified Linux distro mostly installed on a weak WalMart computer. Still cloud computing is the next step (and post OS). Obviously Apple has inched towards content distribution.
I'm an avid PC user and didn't use to be a fan of Macs but I love the Macbook Pro and the new 24" Imac. They both look amazing and perform well and the panel on the 24" looks gorgeous, better than any other 24" I've seen to date. The colors are a little off due to the glossy panel and it's noticeable since I use these in the digital photo lab at school for printing but the black levels you get are definitely worth the trade-off. If I had had the money, I would've bought the Imac over my new PC build! Lets see some more pics people! I need more things to drool over.

Sounds more like differences in color profiles then screen color depth. I'm a PC user myself because I'm primarily involved with 3D animation.....but having a background in illustration and computer graphics, I can safely say that calibrating for consistant color on your monitor and printer are equally TERRIBLE on a PC or Mac. Every so often they come up with another sRGB or Adobe standard: way back when they were supposed to be standardizing everything.....but now adays they're increasing color depths (and make things even more complicated). Graphics also inherently look different on the default OS schemes. Historically, Macs have had higher gammas and square pixels while PCs have had lower gammas (higher contrast) with rectangular pixels. Since I have to design content that's going to be shown on both platforms, I shoot for a gamma that's inbetween PC and Mac and I try to get a sRGB that's compatible for most OSes.

Im thinking of getting a macbook at the next refresh, I will definitly buy one in a heartbeat if they put a _400_ graphics card in it (even if it goes up to 14" or so to fit), more or less a 9400gs or a hd3400 card in it because I would like to use wine to play some steam games on it. If they dont do it ill consider playing with a macbook at the apple store a few times and see if I can make the size compromise to 13.3"
I cant wait to see the new redesign. If i dont get macbook, because macbookpro is way out of my pricerange and if this redesign is as huge as the hype I wont want an old edition of MBP. And if this all goes downhill Ill probably run linux, im getting away from windows as fast as possible :P Except my pcs graphics card doesnt play nice in linux

Meant to say screen and not panel again. Glossy screens are known to affect color accuracy, that's why pro LCDs don't use them. I too usually edit at home on my PC/LCD then do final color adjustments on the Imac or Mac Pro/CRT before printing and there definitely is a noticeable color difference between PC/Apple.
