I've still got one of the compact model PS1's, the only reason being that I'll get absolutely nothing for it in trade-in.
I saw this one at the thrift store today. I don't own any console anyonme, but this one looked so cute so I bought it since I still kept some classic psx games. Thinking of getting the 5" attachable lcd on ebay. Snes and Psx, two best console for me.
I have small hands and I love the PSX controller, I need extreme fast button pressing for fighting games, which I can't do with the other bulky controllers. I remember the original Xbox controller. To play I had to run inbetween the buttons and then jump and stomp on them.

I actually thought about doing this so that the unit can remain it's own standalone video game system. I still do muck around on it often as I never threw out my games and still do play them; I just play with my Wii more often.
I have:
- Sony Playstation (i forgot the serial no, but it's from japan)
- Sony Playstation 2 (SCPH-15000 , Japan)
- Sony PSP (also from Japan)
I'm thinking to get PS3, but they're ridiculously expensive, and frankly PS2 or XBOX360 has better games than PS3. I have Wii too as well... but the games is simply boring

I preferred the audio for DVD movie watching on the thick PS2, since it output 5.1 instead of just 2 channel stereo of the slim version. But for gaming, the slim PS2 has a little better looking resolution.
I'm pretty sure the audio capabilities of both models are the same. I'm equally sure that I used to use my slim model to play DVDs in college, using the optical out. You might have to turn it on in the PS2 menu.
Is it possible to emulate PS1 games on PSP yet? I really want a portable way to play FF tactics. I've thought about somehow fabbing a small PS1 to make it portable, or at least transportable.

FF Tactics is available for the PSP. There are a few changes, like new cut scenes, 16:9 view, a couple of map rearrangements, and two new classes; but other than that, it's identical to the PS1 version.

This has been done since one year ago...

i have 3 playstation1's of which none play games anymore (not because they can't).
each one has had the main audio output disabled and tapped off the dac with a high pass filter. the great thing about the SCPH 100x and 520x is the AKM4309AVM DAC. no kidding, for the money it costs to do, its a great little cd player!
