I use my PS3 for gaming maybe 20% of the time it's on. I use it for everything else. It's a damn good media server, blu ray player (though limited in lossless), etc.
My only real beef with it is the bluetooth remote. It's a super cool idea, but there are no universals I know that will work with it.
Having a $400 (retail) remote that won't work with one of my primary devices makes me cranky.
I have 2 slim PS2's (1 silver, 1 black). I also have 2 thick PS2's exibiting black/blue disc read error. I preferred the audio for DVD movie watching on the thick PS2, since it output 5.1 instead of just 2 channel stereo of the slim version. But for gaming, the slim PS2 has a little better looking resolution.
I have around 80 games (haven't counted in awhile). My favorite games are Merceneries, God of War 1 & 2, Resident Evil 4, Black, and Burnout 3.
I plan on getting a PS3 sometime this year along with a new 60"+ 120hz 1080p DLP HDTV. I currently have a Samsung 47" 480p/1080i RP HDTV that has issues:
[1) power supply~ sometimes I have to turn my surge protector off then on to get the tv to turn on, sometimes takes multiple tries]
[2) the auto focus screwed up the convergence on the left side of the tv on several inputs just leaving me with 1 s-video and 1 component fully functional -lost 1 s-video/2 component/1 HDMI]
It would cost too much to repair the tv, and I need(want) more HDMI's, more resolution choices, and a larger/better screen.

i really dislike anything sony, the main reason why i dont like the playstation is the controller, but i love the xbox ones they seem more natural, if you cant get on with the controller then theres no point to how good the games are!

I'm in the opposing camp. I can't stand the Xbox gamepad. The Sony ones are decent but my favourite is the Gamecube one. That just felt right in my hands. Still, I'm using my PS3 pretty well like GAD, 20-30% for games likely 10-20 if I were being pretty conservative and the rest of the use is for movies and music streaming. My wife and kids listen to music all day and it's now one big audio stream from the basement
I use my PS3 (60GB version) for gaming and movies exclusively and I have it plugged into my surround sound receiver. I am about to try an hook up my PS3 to an Entech DAC, outputting to an old Nak 620 poweramp which in turn feeds my stereo speakers.
At the moment, I am also using my craptacular surround sound in a box receiver for stereo output fed by an Apple AirportExpress which is catching tunes streamed from an iMac upstairs in my office.
Could I replace the airport express with the PS3 and stream tunes directly from my iMac to the PS3 and then it turn have the tunes fed from the PS3 into my 2 channel stereo setup?
Also, I live in a remote area with fairly crappy internet bandwidth and awful latency. Online gaming for me is just an exercise in frustration.
Is it possible to use the built-in wireless to create a network with my neighbor's PS3 so we can play each other or must we use the internet or a hard cable connection?
