Disregarding the rest of hundreds of other functionality, give me a Blu-Ray player, SACD, and a large video game system for under $499 then considered it overpriced. You can get 60GB PS3 on eBay which has maximum capabilities that is less than iPhone or iPod Touch in the equation and yes they work, I have 2 of them for a year now going strong.

BTW, Life with PlayStation is now available.

It may look like it's over priced when one doesn't really use PS3 for anything other than gaming. However, if one is looking for a top-end blue-ray player, a next gen gaming console and a network media center, PS3 is such a bargain that Sony still loses money making it.

HDMI to DVI. RGB does not work because it's analog.

So, i picked up an old 60Gb PS3 this week, but I gotta say, I's a fair bit louder than I'd have hoped for. I have it with excellent ventilation, are they all this loud?

I'd say within 10 minutes of being on the fan is too loud for use as a dvd/blu-ray player without it being intrusive. are the new models quieter? I could live without SCAD, Card Readers and backwards compatability if it's signifigantly quieter.

Kind of disappointing really. Still, not as bad as an Xbox360, from what I hear.

Any ideas?

Your PS3 must be sitting pretty close to you. I can't hear my 40GB PS3 as it sits next to my tv.

it's like 8-10 feet away, and i'd say it's definitely noticeable. I'm thinking it might be the older models are just noisier.
